Although could shove £20K in a cash ISA this tax year before 6th April then another £20K from 6th April if you haven’t used up ISA allowance ready…then it’s tax free
If you want to actually make decent money though you need to invest in the stock market / funds etc but consider it a long term investment which can sometimes be a bumpy ride

A mixture of both is good. You can have a mix of both in the form of ISAs (up to £20K per tax year).   I got more in the Premium  Bonds than ISAs currently and havebeen reluxtant to take anything out as I kept winning each month but will try to use the ISA allowance more.  Especially when I max out the PBs.working up to it.

Yeah, i've just started a dedicated finance & investment thread which will hopefully get people sharing general thoughts on investing etc

Only £100 + £25 for me.

If you’re constantly getting zero, yes but never know if you will win or not.

Did you buy in lump sums or gradually over time?

£50K in an instant savings account would get you about £200 per month at around 5%or there about. Would be taxable over £1K earnt or £500 earned or all taxed depending on how much you earn.
The winnings on Premium Bonds are only tax free if you reinvest in Premium Bonds or you put the winnings in a cash ISA or some other tax free account.

A cash ISA will do better than Premium Bonds in terms of interest earned.

Online Darren101

No, all prizes from it are tax free whether you reinvest or not.

From the Ns&i website

Quote
Will you pay tax?
No. All prizes are tax-free.

Future gains from the prize money earning interest is another story which you can put in ISA’s etc

Let's see what happens in the budget. The Tories will be trying to get people to vote for them in the general election.

Online Darren101

Did you hear something about them changing Premium Bonds?

Thought the worst they'd do is drop the prize rate again.

More likely they will increase the holding you can have to try and win votes, that's not meant as a political comment BTW just one way in which Premium bonds may get dragged into the mix

Online Darren101

That would be a welcome change for me  :hi:  I've almost maxed it.

Corrected for you:

My premium bonds did better than my cash isas last year which paid between 4.8% to 5.5%.

My stocks and shares ISA from last year managed to do 12% growth

And?

You really shouldn’t compare longer term (capital at risk) investments with short term cash / emergency funds.

Same for me. Came as a surprise as I’ve had such a good run for over a year , so no complaints

One of the two £1m prizes will be mine next month.

I've won a few hundred quid on them over the past five years, which equates to a pittance each year. I regret not setting up an ISA now.

Online Squire Haggard

Zero for me. It can only get better. :(

fs?

Counting what?

Sorry. FS full service, all in, no holds barred but with protection.
I’m not counting on there being any further queries.

Meaning? Wrong thread?

Offline Private Parts

Apologies. Andywb.
I was drawing the analogy of having won enough to pay for a jolly good full service from a WG.

Does that help you?

Online Darren101

Ah, I had a feeling that was what it meant but wasn’t enough context to make me sure.  Congrats then.  I’m guessing that’s a £100ish win.

Could also be £75 for shorter session unless we’re talking massage extras.

Otherwise 50 quid if we’ren talking soho walkup
