And probably 14 days on return, so a month in isolation? Nah I’ll wait

Offline Prince_s

Might we be able to sneak a 14 day 'girlfriend' into our hotel room  :D

Offline wtfb

Thailand is an approved travel corridor so no need to isolate on return

Offline Asianfcuker

Thailand has now decided to allow anyone to visit as long as they do the 14 day quarantine which has to be paid for. It used to be just low risk Covid-19 countries who were allowed to visit. Everyone who enters will get a 90 day visa. Under the old scheme only 825 people visited Thailand!

Of course you still have to battle your way through virus infested airports and flights to get there....

The more liberal policy represents a government U-turn and is designed to help the ailing tourism industry.

A quick interpretation from Thai means " We want/need you money"

Offline Stickitin

But on top of the 2 week isolation when you get there standard tourists can’t even get permission to enter at the moment anyway. You need special reasons, work, married to a Thai etc.

No, that's no longer true. Thailand is now open to all.

Offline britman

Until vaccination rolls out - and plenty of people are vaccinated quarantine will be the norm.

Not idea.

Offline wtfb

I agree Britman. Quarantine will be the norm until there is some kind of passport stamp or internationally recognized document that says you have been vaccinated - or maybe a blood test. I think the desire to keep a quarantine will be especially likely in countries like Thailand (4000 infections, 60 deaths) who have managed the virus well. I expect anyone will be welcome in the USA so they can keep the infection and death rates high  :(

Personally, although I would go Thailand for more than a month maybe even two,  I wouldn't go until I had been vaccinated.  As an old git I think the risk of infection in airports and planes is just too great ad the possible consequences too serious. Dying for a fuck indeed!

Offline seandana

No, that's no longer true. Thailand is now open to all.

You are correct in saying it is open to all but with 2 weeks of quarantine and an additional 30 days minimum stay yes it is open to everyone who has lots of money and lots of time . Also if you are a golf fan you can now do your 2 weeks of quarantine at a golf course and get to play every day while you quarantine , apparently one of the top thai government ministers owns a country club . Not open to your average tourist unfortunately .

Pattaya has been put back into lockdown, all bars, massage parlours and restaurants ordered to close, even 7/11 has to close from 10pm until early morning.
You can check it out on You-Tube.  :hi:

I cant see places like Pattaya returning back to normal. The government has been trying to transform Pattaya for a long time into a family resort, I think covid might eventually make their wishes come true. The good old days of fun down soi 6 is long long gone, many bars wont survive this next lockdown.

I wish them luck trying to attract European families to Pattaya, why sit on a plane for 12 hours when you can get to the Canaries in four hours. ????

There is still plenty of life around Soi Buakhao and LK Metro or there was until lockdown.

There seems to be new hotels being built around Soi 7 and 8 so those bars may not survive.

Maybe the mods could move the last few posts to a Dominican Republic thread in the Americas forum as it looks like i has potential.

Think you will have a long wait, increased restrictions for people from the UK incoming being muted currently by the sounds of it.

they have also dropped the requirement for a visa now too again. Back to the old exemption but with a extra 14 days to allow for the quarantine. i m due to fly out in marc h but that remains to be seen given what is currently going on in both countries right now.

I'm optimistic that the Pattaya we know will survive in some form. The place will transform from a party town for European and Australian gentlemen into a RnR destination for Chinese men. Much of it is already there; golf courses, bars, clubs etc. Casino's will spring up like no tomorrow. And those Chinese men will be just has horny as their European counterparts.

yes it certainly will. It's an easy access point for both chinese and indian clients. Middle class wealth rising all the time and they have money to burn.

It will pick up in no time once all this has blown over.

Wise move I think buddy, for unless you have been vaccinated I doubt it will be a straight forward process come the Autumn unfortunately.

Gambling is illegal in Thailand.

This is correct but you can find some casinos on the border towns with Cambodia and Myanmar but in those countries not in Thailand

Covid has changed the world forever, the tourist areas of Thailand have been devastated, check out the latest You-Tube videos. Casinos will come to Thailand, it’s just a matter of when, what better way to attract Chinese tourists. ??

One of things the Thais have been discussing is how to discourage the hoardes of Chinese tourists who pre-pandemic used come to Thailand but never spend any money. They bring their own food and everything they need for the trip and stay in really cheap hostels/hotels. As a result Thailand doesn't really make really money out of them. There is talk of a visitor tax of 300 THB or more.

The POGOs in the Philinnes prove how popular casinos are to the Chinese with money to burn.

What absolute nonsense, the last time I went through immigration (November 2019) they had a priority lane for Chinese only.

That's what the Bangkok Post is reporting..... They get a huge number of cheap Chinese and they don't want huge queues holding us up from getting to our punting destinations.  :D

Strictly speaking Thailand is open (or at least it was open - I'm not sure if things have changed this month)

A work contact of mine is currently working remotely from Bangkok and plans to stay there for 5 months total. he went there from the uk in Nov on a tourist visa which he says was issued by the Thai embassy in London. He says there is a clear process to follow incl tests and paying for extra covid insurance, he followed the steps and got the visa. He had to spend the first  2 weeks isolated in a 5 star hotel which he didn't mind as he was working and then got in a hotel apartment. I'm sure he is making use of the dating apps as the bars are closed. I have seen him punt on a few nights out in Dubai. He is close to retirement and doesn't need to care what other people think.

I would have loved to do the same but can't risk my reputation with family and colleagues, I would feel differently about this if we still can't holiday next winter.

hi
i gather the Thais are to begin vaccine program June 2021, which means perhaps more 'normal' tourism may begin late 2021, early 2022  ??

i was due to be there actually now, i would have been starting the last week of a 6 week holiday ffs

hoping for mid January Pattaya 2022 as long as the complications of entry are lessened, especially no quarantine of course !

Cheers
