In some cases, Asians can be less likely to hold eye contact, especially in a business situation involving people of unequal status.  There's loads of articles on this if you google 'asian eye contact etiquette'.

I've not had this happen to me,  but I'd guess it would mostly work if you gently but firmly say 'look me in the eyes baby'.

I'm not certain but I think eye contact between a woman & a man other than her husband is 'haram' or forbidden in Islamic Law.

As mine was the post which led to this discussion, let me say that I have no empirical evidence to back up the implication that the majority of Asian SPs are Muslim.

My comment sprang from a number of sources. if I had a bucket list of things to achieve before I retire from punting, it would include seeing one of the SPs who represents herself as Muslim; and I'm not turned on by Chinese or Thai girls.

Of course, if I'd switched my brain on before my earlier post, I would have remembered revising for Geography 'O' level in 1962, when I knew incontrovertibly that both China and Thailand were Asian countries!

Ahem, possibly not counting (some of) the Uyghurs.  Uyghur and Hui pop (both predominantly Muslim) in China c.22M out of 1.435B, no current indications of how Hui are treated.
