There seems to be a rash of complaints that are surely a waste of Admin's time with prossies asking to have their photos removed. One just wonders who told them they were responsible enough to use the Internet.

To all the silly-bee prostitutes making such a request, if your photo appears on UKP it is because you posted it online. Nobody went through your handbag. The CIA didn't steal it from your new phone. You posted it. When you sign up to AW there's an option to hide your profile picture or not. Some do, some don't. Adultwork is trawled by millions of people. Your photo isn't illegal. What goes on the Internet in general stays on the Internet so don't blame UKP for linking it or think that if UKP were to take down the link it suddenly time-travels you back to before you were a prostitute. It doesn't.

And for the record, no, you don't have some sort of legal recourse (which you never had anyway, even if you could afford lawyers). Please read UKP's rules and ethos. Then go and speak to Saafe.com who are there to sympathise. We are not. We are your customers. Thank you for advertising: we kept the flyer you posted with your picture on it.  :rose:

This is not an 'official' statement; just a comment from a concerned member about the waste of your time and ours. Admin is the only person who makes such decisions round here but you should maybe save crying wolf in case there was something serious, like a photo posted of you from your other job if you have one, in other words a non-prostitution photo, since UKP doesn't allow those. For the rest, you know the saying about 'you made your bed' and in this case it's bought and paid for.

Spot on, Marmalade.

And it's often those who boast about their 'education' who are the loudest in complaining.

It does make me laugh when I see the amateur hour legalise statements on AW profiles, when they don't realise that by uploading photos to AW that they've signed over copyright of those photos to AW anyway  :dash: :dash:

Not to mention the prossies who are greedy and stupid enough to charge extras for photos and videos "for personal use only" in a booking who are dim enough to think they won't get shared far and wide...

Once it's on the internet, it stays on the internet, or on someone's computer.

Just a reminder from the UKP position for those that are right-click challenged

It is not allowed to post personal info of service providers, such as real names and personal social networking profiles. Phone numbers may be posted in full only if they are published in adverts / profiles. Hotels used by service providers may not be named. General description of incall locations is acceptable, but not specific house numbers or street names or postcodes. Linking porn work is allowed. Modelling work is also allowed depending on circumstance, e.g. face pics showing on both prostitution profile and modelling profile. News items may be posted depending on circumstances (e.g. criminality). Previous working names are never censored, regardless of reasons (see below for more). Objections from service providers to any privacy-related info will need to be raised with Admin for consideration.

- Post deletion
Posts will only be deleted if they contravene these rules or are duplicate posts. Common reasons such as "I've been asked to remove this by the person" or "I don't want to be discussed" or "I am no longer working" or "My boyfriend has found out" or "I don't want my new name to be known" will NOT be accepted. If a post / review you made or someone else made about you is incorrect then make a post to correct yourself or them.

Some people are polite but ignorant. Some are just rude. For the benefit of someone who spammed claiming that a person advertising on AW is underage, UKP is quite clear:
Quote
- Allegations of under-aged / trafficked / forced sex workers
Contact law enforcement.

It is AW, not UKP, that has originated the picture, and with the woman's consent, so the first place to go would be AW. Like AW, UKP is beyond the UK jurisdiction but is not a money-making venture. The police are in a position to look at evidence: UKP is not.

AW however asks women for proof of age.

How do I report an Underage member?
You must be 18 years of age or over to use the Site and we take these matters extremely seriously.
Please provide the information here so that we can remove this member immediately.
Due to the number of fake reports received, you must be logged into your account when submitting the report.

UKP has no way of validating such claims, especially when any jealous ex-boyfriend or the woman herself could make such a claim having decided she wants to be a prostitute but doesn't want the hassle of publicity that she herself has posted. UKP never posts anything remotely illegal, and any material including photographs is quoted in good faith. UKP is simply posting publicly avalable information.

'Copyright' is another frequent but non-sensical moan. AW has some good advice:

Quote
Some Information about Copyright

Copyright is automatic in the UK and most of the rest of the world. It is essentially a private right so decisions about use of a copyright work and how to enforce copyright are generally for a copyright owner to take for him or herself.

Do I have to mark my work to claim copyright?

Although a few countries require that a work be marked with the international © mark followed by the name of the copyright owner and year of publication, this is not essential in most countries, including the UK. However, marking in this way may assist in copyright infringement proceedings.

What about marking my work and enforcing copyright when I put it on a web site?

Generally, when you put your work on a web site, it is probably a good idea to mark each page of the web site with the international © mark followed by the name of the copyright owner and year of publication*. In addition, you could include information on your web site about the extent to which you are content for others to use your copyright material without permission. Although material on a web site is protected by copyright in the same way as material in other media, you should bear in mind that web sites are accessible from all over the world and, if material on your web site is used without your permission, you would generally need to take action for copyright infringement where this use occurs.

*A website address, domain name or email address is NOT valid as a copyright owner as it does not constitute a person or organisation.

If you wish to upload images to AdultWork.com with some form of copyright notice on them please be sure that the owner's name or registered business name is used.  In the event of URLs being found on uploaded pictures or movies, we will require a company registration number that points to this name as the company name or trading name.

Please click here to register your company information

On top of that, most UKP images are not photos but links to the photos on AW. The originator has clearly voided any copyright claim unless it was clearly registered under AW's terms. Other photos that are reproduced would likely fall under fair use (they were used to advertise a prostitute's services and UKP is either reporting them, like a newspaper might, or quoting them within its legitimate remit.)

Hiring a Lawyer cost couple of thousands and other fees so i can't think they would bother really because they love money too much.

Most independent girls cant manage there profile right they should have an agent do it or someone who know what to do and don't blame UKP for making stupid mistakes its a risky business.

A copyright case would I think cost a lot more than a couple of thousand these days. 2K would barely be a deposit. But there's been no breach of copyright anyway and most decent lawyers would point that out instead of taking their money. Admin has already pointed out he would take action over anything illegal or unethical -- not because he's forced to, but out of the fact that the site is founded on a decent ethos, for all the strong language used at times, or that not everyone agrees with prostitution. But as already pointed out, he should be contacted with some evidence in such rare cases, not expect him to become a private detective or take every tom dick and harriet's word for stuff. I think if prossies go to Saafe they will get much the same advice. Two legitimate non-profit sites, one to support prossies in a decent way and one to support fairness for customers.

maybe AW should have a pop up when a girl tries to post a verification pic; "are you sure you want to let everyone know you do this for a living?"
