An expensive girl, a posh hotel.

I walk in. Been told that the stairs are before the lift and reception. I glance around, can't see any stairs. There's a door to a bar, not sure if it's through there. The receptionist, around 10 feet away, shouts "can I help". I just ask where the stairs are. She asks why. I say I'm there to see a friend. She asks what room. I tell her the room number. She asks the name of the person there. I say I don't know (bad decision). She calls security. I walk away before security arrive.

had to text the girl sorry, and tell her to make up a story about me being her Uber driver.

Anyone had such a bad experience? I had an almost-as-bad experience with a concierge at a posh block of flats once, the girl was very concerned as apparently I was the third or fourth visitor to her that day stopped, all saying they were going to see her.

Makes me wonder why hotels are so awkward, surely if someone has paid for a room the mere fact they might want to see or have round a few male visitors for company ?.

Whats wrong with that ?

The WG should of given you proper directions and been available for you to ring her to direct you to her room, or meet you. I would of told the hotel woman its none of her business what I was doing, if she had pressed the matter I would of walked as you did. Most hotel staff in my experience aren't policeman, they are there to offer a service not scare people off.

just ask where the stairs are. She asks why.

To which your reply should have been because I'm claustraphobic and don't use lifts  :music:

same happened to me with katlee in manchester . hotel near airport. i had travelled 60 miles and was gagging to meet her. They really caught me out but it was nt my fault. Very poor instructions..just room number.  So embarrassing but it was impossible to find the fucking stairs or lift and reception was staright through the entrance doors. i fucking hate hotels now. too stressful and they are a deal breaker in future. I ve rarely found them straight forward. best are ones that can avoid reception altogether or motels.

Just walk into the hotel, walk straight to the stairs or lift, pick a floor, any floor, just to get away from reception then get your bearings from there.

The OP couldn't find the stairs, that was the problem. It was as he was looking for them the receptionist spoke to him.   :unknown:

There was a story either on here or UKE a couple of months back that Britannia were clamping down on this sort of thing.

Offline jordan452

I would never give out the room number I would just say I’m waiting for a friend, but they were already suspicious of you so I don’t think they would have left you alone. Probably best to walk.

Offline Metalgear2018

Yes in St Albans. The Noak hotel by the shell garage. I walked in and the receptionist asked me what room number I'm going to. I told them and they looked at me then typed something on the computer. I got scared and made an excuse and walked back into the car park and drove off.

Offline Herts_Outcaller

It wasn't the girl's usual place. She said it never happened to her before. It was probably just as awkward for her as me, as they apparently rang her afterwards.

There was a lift there, which in hindsight I should have headed straight for. Still may not have saved me. I think my big mistake was to ask where the stairs were. Never ask for help. Just say "no, I'm fine thanks" when asked if you need help or what they can do for you.
What caught me was the fact she was on me with the questions as soon as I walked in. Obviously I was put on the spot and gave the wrong answers. Certainly if I'd said it was none of her business that wouldn't have helped. Had no such problems at the Britannia in Canary Wharf when I punted there. She probably thought I was there to rob the place. I was dressed in Jeans and T-Shirt.

And now my balls are as blue as the ocean. It's a terrible affliction

Offline Herts_Outcaller

Anyways, lesson learnt, get past reception, do not talk to reception, head for nearest stairs OR lift and work your way from there. Problem was if I'd had to take the lift down to the same floor, as I'm pretty certain this was a ground floor room just up the first set of stairs probably as it started with a "1". Wish girls would stay in less posh hotels. Problem is I like the finer, more expensive working girls sometimes that stay in more expensive places. Don't get this problem with Maria from Romania charging £60 for half hour

If they’ve challenged one or two more at the hotel then they will be on their guard all the time from now on and probably email a few others in area or even across the country,I had one before just down the road  from where I live I went to walk straight in and they started asking questions I just walked.
It was 9:30 in morning so they might have thought it was unusual at that time.

A number of ladies use this group of hotels and lodges, a number have vehicle number plate recognition and you have to enter your vehicle registration on a tablet at reception.
The punt could cost you a lot more if a penalty notice comes through your door at home. (in more ways than one!)
It's worth checking on a hotel car park entrance for cameras, can always park nearby and walk in.

Nightmare. This is why I avoid hotels if possible. I went to one once and the stairs were right next to the reception desk. Some guy said hi to me and I gave him a smile as I went for the stairs. He stopped me and asked if I was staying there so I told him I was meeting someone then he asked for the room number and name. I had her AW name and she hadn't given me the room number, just told me to go to the 2nd floor or whatever it was then call her.
I just stood there like a plank and called her asking for the room number. She just told me to come up the stairs so I had to explain to her on the phone that the receptionist wouldn't let me up, all the while he was listening.

I eventually got the room number and he just  gave me a look and let me up

There's been previous threads about this both here and on UKE
One of the midlands police forces put an enforcement notice on their local Britannia to force them to get ID from all room visitors. Police simply got pissed off with the number of prossies there. Britannia seem to have taken the notice and applied it to the rest of their hotels.

If you do want to visit a girl in a hotel its good to have a reason for being there.......being a call-out computer engineer is a good one. Businesswoman called out of the blue asking you to come and fix her laptop, sorry you don't know her name

==edit==
here's the detail about the police enforcement
External Link/Members Only
seems there were worries about underage girls.
Its noticeable that girls now seem to totally ignore the two Britannia chain hotels in Blackpool - the last EE girl in either was well over 12 months ago

==edit 2==
another tip is to arrive early and go straight to the bar
get a coffee or soft drink, sit down in the bar and suss the place out for 20 minutes or so before you try going to the room. Gives you a chance to get your bearings, and deflects reception's attention

This is why I hate hotels. Just because it's very rare that this happens, it's the fact that you have to worry about it at all that puts me right off.

Had no such problems at the Britannia in Canary Wharf when I punted there.

Funnily enough that's one hotel I almost had problems with, the other is Copthorne tara. Never again.

It's easy for me to say but if you had used her working name probably everything may have been alright.

It happened to me when I met the porn star Kora Kryk. Strangely enough, she felt they rang through to her because of issues of colour.

Most of my problems in hotels have occurred at the smaller end. Usually better to use larger hotels IMHO

If you have the hotel details in advance a little web research before arriving can help you avoid that tell tale "I don't know where I'm going" look as you walk past reception.

A lot of hotels actually now have a virtual tour which can be used to explore the lobby using google street view (just drop the little yellow man directly onto the hotel on google maps). Such as this example picked at random:

External Link/Members Only

If it's not available on street view many of them have a virtual tour built into their website, especially some of the best top end hotels that are trying to attract tourists by showing off how plush they are. Another example picked at random:

External Link/Members Only

They don't always let you find your way all the way from the front door to the stairs/lifts. But they can help you feel a bit more familiar about the layout. And zooming in on the pictures can show you the detail you want (another tip is to use the virtual tour to look out for signs pointing out the directions to lifts/stairs/rooms 101-120/etc, saves you scrabbling around for that info under the watchful eye of the reception desk.)

I used to have a fear of hotels, then I learned and practised the following technique:

Get a good brief from the WG.

Have a prepared story, I use 'business meeting' or picking a friend up to go to lunch/dinner/drink /coffee depending on time of day. Reinforce it with 'is your bar /restaurant open?" If necessary.

Look as if you belong there, attire and attitude.

Be busy on the phone. Talking into a dead phone, having made sure it's on silent just in case it rings. Be in the middle of a work call. Stop just inside the hotel whilst talking and get your bearings.

Don't make eye contact with the staff.

If you can't spot the stairs/lift then head to the bar or suitable place to look for them.

If you're still accosted by a member of staff, stare them down or ignore them as you're such a busy /important person.

Just look normal is my MO and advice, when staying in a hotel for whatever reason I don't avoid eye contact or pretend to be on a phone. I just walk in and go to my room...................sometimes even smile at staff.

So that's what I do whatever, and keep remembering I should be there, I'm going to my room or to meet a friend.

Sorry the OP has had a confrontation, must have been a bit scary and frustrating at the same time.

I had heard Britannia have started a 'looking out for trafficking' policy, which hasn't gone down well with some of their guests.

As noted above the key is to look like you should be there - clothes and demeanour

Only been asked if I needed help a couple of times when I had to walk past a bored reception desk - a solid no thanks I'm fine without breaking stride works wonders

Once when I told the WG of my brief encounter with reception she apologised that she hadn't used the hotel before but had been told they were WG friendly, she had tipped the maid to get extra towels. Unlike a large chain - think it was Hilton - where she had been caught 'on the job' thrown out and banned. I said that must have been awkward for the client but she said he was OK and had booked her again

Bloody hell fire. Taking a newspaper spending 30 minutes to drink a coffee for all the effort you might as well book someone else.
