STI worries/advice

Think I have an STI, saw someone about 9/10 days ago, this weekend suddenly stinging like hell to pee, and foreskin looking very red.  Went off to the GUM yesterday, they took urine, blood and swab and now nervously awaiting results, but just showered up tonight and I can feel a bunch of sores/spots flaring up on the foreskin.   Would it be worth going back tomorrow in case they can diagnose at least some of what I have now, or will they just say wait for the results.

Also should I contact the girl, or wait until it's confirmed by the GUM that it is an STI?   Shitting myself    and think that's about done for me

They didn't give me anything yet, I can't stand this waiting around, especially as the symptoms are worsening

Was on the belief if you have symptoms they inject your ass with anti-biotics as a precaution. 

Could be different policy in different gum clinics though.

I would probably contact the girl now and tell her she might have passed along an STI to you when you met last week.  Even if you don't have the final results yet, at least that way she has the option of going to the GUM clinic herself sooner rather than later and having herself tested.  You might just save some other punter from going through what you're dealing with.

Good luck with everything though, sounds really unpleasant, but hopefully easily treated once the exact diagnosis is made....

Expect it will be OWO, all the sex was covered, in hindsight she did have an odd habit of dribbling a lot of saliva and I think a lot of it was directed at the old japs eye, so this is probably how I got something.

Yep just got a call late afternoon today, fucking HSV, herpes FFS! No cure. HSV-1 they say so cold sore not the other one HSV-2, but it's not a fucking cold sore for me, it's genital.  Really not sure what the fuck to do now, absolutely gutted.    Oh and I can look forward to these spots turning into open blisters soon which will be even more painful.

Did they give you anti viral tablets is my first question? If not, ask for them. Acicloyvr tablets. You can take them to stop it getting worse, and you can take a low dosage every day to prevent it coming up again.

As for the future..... Obviously there is no cure for this and will will pop up again, however, hsv-1 prefers to live on the lips not the genitals, so it won't appear as often as hsv-2. The first year or two will be the worst in terms of attacks but after that it should call down to one or two occurrences per year. Just remember that you can spread it to others even when you don't have sores, through viral shredding so you'll also need to take precautions.

Might be worth naming the girl so others stay away from her as well.... Bad luck though

Really sorry to hear that mate...especially coming off an OWO.  Thats sucks. So in theory you can never get an OWO ever again or even bareback your wife/girlfriend without risking transmission.

Yeah I didn't realise you could get HSV-1 on genitals, I bloody do now! I am an idiot! Regarding meds yes when I went back yesterday with clear signs they put my straight on to acyclovir, from what I understand this should help stop or slow the virus developing more sores, but the ones I have will still turn into ulcers and eventually crust over, not looking forward to that as they are mainly on foreskin, that's not going to be fun

Thanks for the tip regarding lysine, and the arginine trigger, will look into this more.     With the FAQ you quoted I am not sure if it's fair to name her directly, even though I am pretty convinced that she is the cause and according to the GUM the timing is typical.  PM if you want any more info.

Yes, they are unfortunately.  Even in the absence of ulcers you can still be shedding the virus through the skin.... this viral shedding occurs a few times a year even though there are no obvious signs it is happening.

I know this sounds crappy but in a way its good you have HSV-1 and not HSV-2.  HSV-2 outbreaks are more frequent and worse in severity.  Out of interest, im assuming you dont suffer from oral cold sores?

Thanks mrfishyfoo, I am sure the statistics are correct, however after 25+ years of unprotected sex with the Mrs, I may have to rubber up, I can't stand the thought of passing this onto her, nor can she, but I can't imagine using condoms after all of these years so a bit of a predicament once I am healed up.

SJ..... Actually there may be a way to continue having sex with the wife and that's too have a constant low dosage of acicolvyr tablets. The low dosage will lower the virus in your system and could even stop you having an outbreak completely. I've heard of people with hsv-2 doing this, some of which haven't had an outbreak for over 10 years. Might be worth speaking to your GU clinic about...

Sorry to hear of your news, it's not the end of the world though. I know someone very close who has had HSV1 for a while, they only slept with a handful of people so no slag and they caught it via a facial cold sore whilst also receiving OWO. Good news is as time goes on it gets less and less frequent on outbreaks.

On the subject of STI's though I have been on and off punting for several years now. Engaged in some close to the cloth stuff on occasion and always been clear.... Not that I condone it at all.

I have had Chlamedyia a few times in my youth and every time I caught that was via a one night drunken stand with a girl out in town. So in my experience one night stands are far more high risk of catching an STI.
