I've no doubt it's an important topic, Corus Boy; so I'm not being flippant when I note that:

i] the Doctor quoted is Dr. McSorely - I've never seen it spelt like that before - it's  usually spelt without an 'e', I think. If I remember what the only McSorley I ever met - we were at College 50 years ago - told me, it's the gallic for "sailor's son"; and

ii] he's the President of Bashh.

Really???

McSorely is also an accepted spelling. As a Scot, I've encountered both versions. If I remember, those Scots, of Southern Irish immigrant descent are  likely to use either spelling. There are lots of spellings of common Scottish and Irish names. Growing up as a Prod., in a divided Glasgow, I only knew Paterson with one 't' - I found out, once I left my Prod. school and started work, that RCs might use Patterson. Then there's the Mac or Mc useage and Stewart or Stuart.
