You're a wise man! I made that mistake just the other night - 4:whiskeys and a pint. And then everyone decided to leave! Unfortu :coolgirl:nately they were all Americans so they weren't really aware of the round culture.  Spent the rest of the evening drinking, and paying, by myself.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.

It got me thinking (always a bad idea)

Is it just a British thing…… this buying of rounds ?

Big in Australia, but called 'shouts', and taken quite seriously.

Universal me thinks
There's an adaptation of buying rounds when out
Everyone chucking some dosh in
In light of the thread subject this is aptly referred to as a 'whip'

I do like a whip, so to write
One of the reasons being as this doesnt lead to some rounds taking longer than others to materialize
As whoever its turn it is perhaps drinks more slowly or is gassing & not drinking speedily enuf

Its also a laarf if someone in possession of the whip will decide to add a short as a 'side' order to the round
Like sambuca or a depth charge
It can lead to being 'lashed' [coat  :D]

Noting that it can be v.warm down under the aussies have a great sized beer
A schooner, in between a pint & a half
So it doesn't disappear in an instant & doesn't warm up too much

Always been odd names in Aussie.
As well as the schooner, there's the middy which is about half a pint and favoured by some old Sheila's.

However a lad's night out often involves buying jugs of lager and sploshing it around the glasses.

Up in the hot dusty iron ore towns in the NW, they always buy jugs of lager, but don't even bother with the glasses, particularly in the bars that cater for the large multinational male workers.
