Like many others I have been amazed that AW has continued to be the dominant player when it comes to online escort communities/booking platforms given it's under-developed interface and many, many other shortcomings but it looks like it could be getting it's act together.

I've just stumbled across AdultWork's developers site - External Link/Members Only - finally looks like they are about to rework their web site with some modern technologies such as a unified login, fully responsive HTML5 and responsive design.

Looks like they are taking submissions from freelance developers.

Last year, I was involved briefly with a development project that was building a rival platform but for a variety of reasons it fell through.

What does this mean in English to help us punters? Sorry I am not a tekki so have no idea what you are saying.

I agree.  Seems like the changes are just to generate more cash for them.

Some people like to complain but at the same time don't want anything to change.

I'd like them to have a map search mode, not all that different to that sex map site covering Prague -  External Link/Members Only

They need to simplify the heck out of the site.  They probably have all the necessary metrics that show where people click and which parts of the site people aren't bothering with.  Just get rid of the dead weight.

The elephant in the room is that PG scams actually make AW money.  I don't think anyone expects them to try and put a stop to such activities, but here's my suggestion anyway; New Escorts would need a minimum of, let's say 3 feedback from legitimate punters (who also have more than 3 feedback) before they're allowed to sell anything (knickers etc.) and have a private gallery on their profile.  When they eventually do have their own PG, they can only charge .50p.  When they reach a feedback of 10 for example, they can add more pics and charge slightly more for access.  There has to be a tier system that rewards those who use the site properly while not discouraging new users.

I think a big attraction for said new users would be that the site takes its users seriously enough to run things properly, and if they play by the rules, they'll get more out of it.  That also means they'll get a bigger share of their earnings from PG, chat and cam work.

Authentication and privacy are probably the main areas of concern for us lot.  I don't think they can do much beyond the multi-step log-in without infringing on our anonymity.  But I'd like to see every escort having to verify themselves in some way or another, be it a photo or a phone call.  Just enough to make it hard for Sergei's to set up hundreds of accounts in an afternoon.  This is for both the escort's safety and the punter's.

I'm not even going to mention VR.   :yahoo:

The thing is, if they become really, mind blowingly successful, Mumsnet will start a smear campaign the government may step in.   :wackogirl:

For all it's faults the current system works. Easy on the data for phone users too. The phone app is shit so don't hold out much hope for a new site.

Well seeing as by mentioning that you weren't going to mention it you did actually mention it, please let us in the dark know what it (VR) is.

Its mainly so 3rd party web masters can include AW profiles easily on other sites

How would you say this is going to help the punters?

Firstly that god awful interface will be tidied up and refined for sure.

The overall look and feel of both the 'my adult site' templates and the developers portal itself shows the look AW may be adopting, it is certainly sleeker and cleaner than the current version of the site.

They might also get around to moving away from the horrible javascript navigation they use which means for the most part your having to reuse the same window to view pages within AW.

Offline pervlens

To be perfectly honest I don't AW needs to change all that much.

The crucial change for me would be aesthetics-wise - tidying up the interface, slimming down and better structuring the countless sections that have appeared, fully responsive design so that you don't have to put up with the phone app version of the site.

Part of the reason why AW works so well now, despite it's flaws, is it does lots of the stuff that service providers and punters want already but the user experience could be made neater and in doing so providers might see an increase in sales.

The search results needs to be made much cleaner and easy to peruse too as does the search options, that page is bad and too many of the options conflict with each other in my opinoun.

For example, the camming system and playing of video clips could be brought into the main site rather than popping it out with an interface that allowed other purchases to be made etc.

Hopefully they'll move away from pop-ups too.

I'm actually pretty excited about this - so thanks for drawing my attention to it OP. Not just about the redesign but the fact they're working in an API to allow other sites to access their database. They've obviously realised that the database is much more important than the site itself. And this move paves the way for somebody else to do a much better site and create much better smartphone apps but with the same huge selection of girls.

I notice they're looking for developers. The main skill the look for no doubt is being able to write code one-handed :D

As one of Catherine Tate's characters would say, "I can do that"  :D

adultwork have boxed it off on all fronts, its the equivalent to what ebay is to online auctions [no other serious competitor) I can't see anyone else coming into the market who would be serious competition for adultwork, maybe cleaning up the interface a little but there is not much that really needs improving on the interface front on adultwork, i hardly use it much prefer to ring on the number called instead more easy direct and you get to talk to the lady

Me too. I hardly use it because it's so damn clunky but I might actually start using it more now that I can see not only what they're trying to do but also the fact that they are putting a bit of effort into it finally.

I agree, if other developers can get their teeth into mastering the API, I look forward to seeing what they can come up with fed by the data from AW.

Don't forget the search engine bug, where the form need to be reset or you can't press the search button, hopefully they sort that bastard out.

unified login ! :scare:

That might work for the likes of google [login with google][login with facebook],
but I really don't want my punting details across multiple sites.....

Also looks like we'll soon see lots of clone sites using their API/ database/hosting .. "powered by adultwork"

Only plus point is "responsive design" = a page that changes to your screen size/device - so will work better on mobile.

I understand, me neither I guess. Although for sites like UKPunting and the like as well as from a service provider perspective it would be a nice feature to have - WG's with AW accounts could use their profile information to apply for agencies or create accounts on other services such as Viva Street etc.

Agreed. Responsive design has been at the top of my feature wishlist for a good while now. I'm mostly using my phone to navigate AW and can't stand the app so often I'm left angrily tapping on my screen until I get to see what I want to see.

Adultwork is already HUGE - I do wonder where the money goes...

Me too... It seems like the kind of success story only possible in the sex/adult industry as mainstream services would be quickly decimated. Mainstream social networks demonstrated this with the likes of MySpace and Bebo when FB came along.

One of the reasons it works on other sites is they sometimes own them all. With Google I can log into Youtube, email and more. With a universal login like Facebook you usually need to join the sites individually anyway so it defeats the purpose and you get spammed to fuck on FB.

Meh. The responsive design is the only bit I'm interested in as the webapp is shit and buggy as hell, it'd cost them less and take less effort to fix and maintain their desktop and webapps separately though. API development and unified login is pointless, where's the demand for it?
