Well, I guess this might serve as a reminder to some newbies of the punting scene...
Maintain a burner phone AND keep it discreet.
So.. My burner phone lives in the car, generally turned off. Wife knows it exists, but not it's purpose. I thought to check if it needed charging, so turned it on. Upon turning it on, two text messages, which were unexpected. One message was from a 'lady' telling me that she was leaving the area soon and she hopes I'll go to see her again before she goes. Lots of love and kisses and her first name.  FFS..
If wife had seen that, it would have been game over.

Lesson learned.
Burner phone essential. NO smart features. Max battery life.
Think twice about storing contacts.
Have contacts barely identifiable or obfuscated and lose a digit from the stored number so that an incoming text won't show the associated name.
Don't associate with any apps or other accounts.
Secret pin lock essential ( for both sim and phone if possible ). Always off or locked ( automatically if possible ).
Keep it turned off.
Disable voicemail.
Conceal or explain away its existence.
Keep it on silent as well.
Clear out all text messages and call logs every time.
And be careful when moving it to where it's to be charged.

If the OH is aware of the phone's existence, I would also advise turning off predictive text, just in case there is an emergency and she suggests using the "spare" phone.      Same advice for ipads.

As I've said before "precum" is on my predictive text, type good and girl is the predicted next word.

Only had an unsolicited text once, it was from a Polish tourer at least 5 years ago. I couldn't meet her and I got a text a week later saying she was available that day. Personally, I love receiving flirty texts, never had one after a punt, but I'm single.

With Android smart phones I recommend CM Security which has feature to hide pop up messages (e.g. email, snapchat or messager) appearing on the front screen when the phone is locked.

The fact that the OH knows about the phone is risky
Especially is she gets suspicious about something
Its the 1st thing that she will check
All sorts of risks like checking dialled numbers
Not hard to arrange this - maybe a few hundred quid & a day or two timewise
If she is looking to nail you then a small but very worthwhile investment

I would suggest that you get another burner + a new sim card
Clear the phone in the car & put the new sim in it
You can get really small burners, although if micro sized then harder to use
OK not so easy to use stuff like WhatsA or maps but how often are these must haves ?
You hide the new burner in the car
I would be very surprised if she would check for a 2nd as she will assume that you are using the one that she knows about
And will investigate this one
I would wager that she has already checked this, probably more than once, which you aren't aware of

Thinking about it, a burner in the car [as back up for both of you] is a decent smokescreen

I used to have a burner phone, but actually found it way too stressful as I was always paranoid about the other half finding it. Leaving it at work was no good either, since its pretty useless then for the weekend.

What I do now is use an app called Hushed, which gives you a phone number for a limited time. I only have the app downloaded on my phone in and around the punt, and the login details are kept safely out of harms way (1Password). The downside is that you don't keep the same number, but I have no reason for that anyway really.

Stopping pop up messages on the lock screen has been a built-in feature of Android for a couple of years. No need for third party security apps to do that.

Sent a message to a WG on tues and she said she wasn't working as she had flu, then yesterday my phone pinged and she's made a miraculous recovery, after a bit of ping pong texting I extracted the truth that she was actually casting out the net as she was skint, but of course i was one of the punters that she "genuinely wanted to see". Sensing an opportunity, and wanting more than just my ego stroking I asked if she had any offers on a 2 hour meet to which she replied "I'd love to for you babe, but I just can't afford to right now". Anyway, I had a look on her profile and the header stated "anyone who books today will get a discount as I'm really horny". I let her know that I'd be in touch later in the week, she'll be waiting a long time as I've now blocked her on WhatsApp the cheeky bastard chancer. Also on the lookout for a punting phone to avoid any little accidents.

Never had any issues with WhatsApp. Uses up your data or wifi rather than phone allowance. Would not recommend if you dont have a punting phone as most people have profile photos on it.

Recently, my OH tried to get me and our 20 year old son to install a tracker app on our phones.    She and our daughters already use it and it means anyone in the group can checķ the location of the others at any time.    .    Thankfully, our son was dead against it, calling it "stalkerism", and between us we managed to avoid the "big brother" scenario.    OH wasn't happy and ended with the comment "You've clearly got something to hide".        Close escape, but it leaves me wondering what our son gets up to.

So do you not associate your phone number with social media or financial institutions?
So you've never posted your number online for any reason that might be tracked back to you?

Even if the above is also true, a punting phone is a good idea.
