You don't always need to check- emails and texts are sent to you directly.

Lilywhite's post is correct, there's a long form to fill in with categories for various crimes. The automated reports which are sent out every so often make for heavy, fairly dreadful reading at times. They are a sort of link or a half-way organisation between SPs and the police.
