Interesting choice, could have been better though. I always liked John Cusack, a somewhat underrated actor in my opinion.

He was very good in 1408. Have you seen that?

He plays a man who specialises in debunking paranormal occurrences, therefore he checks into the fabled room 1408 in the Dolphin Hotel.
As he settles in, he confronts genuine terror.  It's plays out almost in real time. Cracking movie. Also stars Samuel L. Jackson.

I've just finished watching :

"The Martian" (2015)

Never saw it before, I'd given up on Ridley Scott movies after being bitten by Prometheus, The Counselor & God fucking damn him, Alien:Covenant  :dash:

Like all his other stuff, this looks fucking amazing - It doesn't hang around & I was truly gripped for the first hour or so, I put it on pause to have a piss & realised I still had over an hour & a half to go!!

I'm no astrophysicist and my syspension of disbelief had been stretched so far I longer cared anymore by the end - If I had been on that ship there's no fucking way I'd be going back to get the bastard - Load of old (great looking) cobblers.

I seem to recall watching "Gravity" (2013) and thinking it was really far fetched but still enjoyed it much more than this.

Probably because Sandra Bullock is in it & it gets the job done in an hour & a half.

Plus she's just making sex noises for the most part of her dialog.

Offline winkywanky

I just can't take Sandra Bullock seriously I'm afraid.

Not since Speed (or indeed, Speed II and probably Speed III). A totally preposterous film.

But she basically always looks just too good to be for real?

Similarly Tom Cruise. He just always look so goddamn smug (although I have to admit, the breakout film for him in this regard was Rainman, Hoffman brought out the best in him).

I suspect this is just all prejudice on my part, and of course the Hollywood machine tends to push them towards the same old roles.

Offline Davey Dykes

Thanks for taking the time to post Davey - I'm a big Tarantino fan as well, but I have to say buddy, as much as I enjoyed it, I didn't know why!

The film just wanders around for 2 hours then has a 'traditional Tarantino' bloodbath ending - I guess it's a testament to his filmwriting/directing skills that my interest was maintained. Plus both leads were great.

I wasn't 'offended' by the 'Bruce Lee' scene (apparently some were) - Just highlighted the fact Cliff was a genuine 'hard man'.

Once again Margot Robbie proved herself to be barely speaking 'eyecandy'

I'm sure you have seen "The Hateful Eight" - By comparison I thought that was far superior - And that only takes place in two or three locations.

I haven't seen Pennyworth but I'll amend the thread to include TV/Streaming - Okay ?

 :hi:

Cheers Doc.

I agree it was a bit of a mess but I enjoyed it all the same. Pitt completely stole the film for me but I grudgingly have to admit that the other lead was particulary good on this occasion. No doubt I'll be in the minority but The Hateful 8 is my go to Tarantino with Django Unchained a fairly close second.

Diddy Tom does seem to divide opinion! I know he is a fuck up with his silly religion but Cocktail, Top Gun, Eyes Wide Shut and American Made all worth a watch...if can get over the Cruise factor!

Daniel Craig also seems to divide opinion. I think he's good Bond (Casino Royale top film) and Layercake a really good one...very violent, Sienna Miller very hot and good sounds too!

Offline winkywanky

Agree about Craig and Miller.

Offline tantric talents

Slightly schmaltzy and cheesy, especially for a Sc-iFi flick, but I enjoyed immensely (and on a couple of repeat viewings since) Interstellar.

Worth noting the immensely powerful Hans Zimmer soundtrack too, consisting of predominantly a full-scale Organ. I cried at several points (music can do that to me ).
Interestingly I saw Interstellar twice in succession with friends/family.
The first time was at the Waterloo IMAX and I have to say despite having seen a thousand movies and even being a self confessed sci-fi aficionado the whole experience was almost transcendental.
The second viewing at a small local imax was still good and not meh but warm in comparison to the total immersion experience of the first.
An interesting and thought provoking film nonetheless

My Sub was shaking the windows on the footpedal notes  :D.

Offline MrMatrix

I don`t go to the cinema because I`m a bit deaf and cannot follow the action without the sub titles, so I`m confined to recordings and TV.

I recently watched (for about the 25th time) Battle of Britain, and the hair on the back of my neck still stands up all through the film.
I also recently watched White Christmas, because Vera Ellen`s legs simply go on  for ever.

And Taming Of The Shrew (Burton and Taylor) `cos I`m a sucker for Shakespeare. Taylor in a temper is wonderful to hear and behold.
I saw this at the cinema decades ago . Susannah York in her prime looked like sex on legs as I recall. And yes its a film that stands the test of time, but I think the music made it as well :hi:

Offline MrMatrix

Yes good thread DrC. Worst film I saw at the cinema couple of years ago was "Lala Land", think it got an Oscar as well. What a load of bollocks it was. :hi:

Watched Bullitt & The French Connection for the first time proper recently, mainly for the car chase scenes which were both fantastic.
Good but not great films imo but Hackman & McQueen were charismatic lead actors (a young Jacqueline Bissett is dreamily gorgeous in Bullitt btw) & it was good to see footage of New York & San Francisco in that time period.
Flicking thru channels the other night & came across The Color Of Money, Scorsese directing Paul Newman & a young Tom Cruise playing pool hustlers, unfortunately it was halfway through the film so didn't get into it properly but I wanna see the whole thing.
Newman cool as fuck & Scorsese my favourite director

It was my birthday the other week, my mother was fishing for ideas. Get me an Amazon voucher.

She did.

I went looking for books and DVD's.

Got a few Keith Floyd books, highly entertaining bloke, the went looking for a few DVD's I haven't seen in years. Got One of our Dinosaurs is missing. External Link/Members Only

Haven't seen it since I was a pre-teen, it's dated as fuck, would be considered hugely offensive these days but by Christ it's good, wholesome fun as long as you accept it as a period piece. Great to see Peter Ustinov and Derek Nimmo again.

I was gonna go see Parasite down my local fleapit last week but recent events have put the kybosh on that.

Anyone know where I can get to see this online?

Morning WW i hope your well  :hi:. In reply,to your said request, i may be able to help you reference Parasite online.i use    External Link/Members Only  and have done for years it,s safe and free.No registration or sign-up or credit card bollox, and i watch all the latest movies for freeee... :D when new movies are released they usually start off as cam versions or Tsync but if you wait a week or so they usually go HD720/1080p.

Now although all these sites are (ad-infested) there is a way around this, i use Adguard Adblocker from firefox it,s also free,it stops all ads even those on you tube etc.I use firefox browser as i find it best for me.

it,s a really simple site to use just click on  External Link/Members Only and clck on (use the old yesmovies movies? click here") in the top right hand corner there is a search box, just type in your desired movie. a page will load up with a photo of your movie and information saying HD qaulity, time of movie, rating etc, etc.click on it let it buffer for a minute or two and hey ho there you go.

Some of my personal recent fav movies..green book, uncut gems and joker

have fun

So do I download Adguard Adblocker then go on to firefox as its an extension?
going on the extension it wants the following permissions
Access  your data for all web sites
read and modify priacy settings
access browser tab
Access browser activity during navigation

It sounds so intrusive they can see everything I do... That concerns me TBH.
What doo you think?

I went to the cinema during the last school half-term to see Sonic The Hedgehog with my young son. It's an enjoyable movie for kids and I also got into it, the lead character is a lot of fun. I'll rate it 6/10 overall.

I have also seen Parasite at the cinema a few weeks ago. I was expecting big things based on the fact it had won the Best Film Oscar and I didn't really know much about the general plot. I thought it was a good film but it didn't knock my socks off. I'm not a movie buff at all but afterwards I was amazed it won the Best Film Oscar. I'll rate it 7/10, recommend you watch it but I don't think I would watch it a second time.

Christ on a bike - You're a braver man than me MrM - I don't mind Emma Stone or Ryan Gosling but I took a look at the trailer & went :

"Nope, not even for free!"

I classified it in the same way I would a film like "Momma Mia" (Again not one I'd be interested in)

Cheers for your opinion - Confirming my fears 100%

Before I end this post, It's not like I hate "musicals" - As a kid "Wizard of Oz" & I recall going to see "Bugsy Malone" & thought it was brilliant.

"Cats" though - Nope, once at the theatre was enough - Thank fuck I didn't pay - I went home at the interval  :scare:  :dash:

Yeah, I get where you are coming from - I think lots of people think the original (whichever version, there are about 4 I think) is a great movie - and I'm one of them. Watched it loads of times.

"Bladerunner 2049" I was completely split 50/50 as to whether I enjoyed it - The positives are it looks amazing, Ryan Gosling is really great, Joi his holographic girlfriend was clever (the lovely Ana de Armas, who knew Androids could love & feel loss) all the supporting cast were brilliant, Sylvia Hoeks as 'Luv' - Fantastic bitch face  :sarcastic: When the action happens it's brutal & convincing but brief - So much good stuff IMO.

The problem for me was the stupid story - Yes, I watched it all the way through - Twice now.

Push aside all the bullshit - Rachel the replicant from the original film was an Android with fake memories to make her seem 'more human'

Deckard fell in love with her & ran away with her - For however long they had .............. The end. Fine, no problems.

Now apparently she was able to conceive - Where did that come from ? Lazy scriptwriting ? Just stupid.

So as much as I actually did enjoy it - At the end I was like - "Oh do fuck off!"

To liken it to a sexual scenario - Maybe like a reluctant orgasm  :sarcastic:

That's a big +1 from me. I've heard people argue it's unnecessary but I thought it was a worthwile watch.

So many small details they bothered to put in plus the lovely Mary Elizabeth Winstead so I may be biased
