Hi gents.

If any of you have some spare time over the next week, and want to avoid shops and/or family monopoly, why not improve the punting wiki?  If you can respond to a thread, then you have the skills to edit it.

External Link/Members Only

Any of you that have had a good punt because of UKP or PW, you don't just need to thank Admin with your words.  You can do something.

Just a neutral suggestion from me.

Good post SD!  I always thought that the Wiki was restricted to privileged members, and was a bit frustrated to see how out of date some of the entries were. I shall do my best to make this a source of good, up to date information!

WKD, great start!.  Only tip is be bolder!  If their profile is dead, move them off the main list.  If you do it in error, it is easily undone.

Nice work WKD.  Any more that can help?

Hi SD

You'll know I have contributed to parts of the wiki where I feel qualified.  I have always been slightly uneasy as there is no published editorial policy, so I have never been sure where i was treading on toes and how to respond when I disagreed with later alterations.  It would be helpful to know your role; do you have an invitation or agreement with admin in this area please?

As UKP grows and becomes more sophisticated some parts of the wiki need to be updated.  Without any disrespect to the attempt (I benefited too) I would also say some bits of the wiki that now look very dated were just too ambitious and don't reflect realism about our resources.  Content in the wiki should be reasonably enduring, which rules out commenting on particular providers or locations for the most part in my view.  This is not to say don't do it, but recognize it is going to be dated and quickly irrelevant.  Personally, I would encourage an editor to erase unsustainable content when it becomes outdated.

I have no role at all.  I just boldly edit when I feel like it, and post stuff here on UKP encouraging others to edit PW when I feel like it.

There is a published editorial policy.  It is just refreshingly short. I am too lazy to look it up but it is something like 'Be bold.  And it is all about supporting punters.'

So if any bits are outdated then go on, fix them!

I happen to disagree that commenting on particular providers or locations is a problem. And I don't think all content needs to be enduring, though it is good if it is. Because changing PW is as easy as posting here.  So I do agree that when content is wrong it should be deleted or corrected right away.  Five or ten more active editors and we will have it sorted.  There are a few too many who post stuff and then bugger off.  Still, better that than doing nothing.

So anyway, change anything you want.  I (or others) might un-change a few things.  But that is all good.  You change 10 things.  I correct 1 or 2. Maybe you change a few things I wrote. We end up with a better wiki.  If we have real conflict, Admin sorts it.  But that is a problem we have not had yet.  So I say to all, go on, improve PuntingWiki. If it is not as good as you want it to be, it is your fault.

Hi SD,

I went in and did some updates to the party section a month ago and to add Lifestyle parties but made a bit of a hash of getting that into the format.

Have been in again today to make some minor amendments so this section is up to date.

If UKP members value the Wiki, then it is good to keep it up to date. When I first found UKP and read the Wiki, it helped a lot and I also liked the "list of...." so I made it a mission to update the London Polish girls list and finally got to add a new entry - it seems worth the time and effort if everyone else benefits. I know the list will change quickly, but I often have time between punts when I am researching anyway so can keep this going.

It's a shame that other areas aren't as well structured, as I tried to move a couple of details to the right region but there was no logical place to record them, so they are now gone. If I feel brave, I might try and structure the other regions in the same way...

Bold is fine, up to a point.

Those editing the wiki need some evidence that they know what they are talking about and can write it eloquently.  For the sake of the reader, I personally would prefer they write in full grammatical sentences and with reasonable spelling.

Admin has set it up so anyone can edit, with no test for brains or eloquence. Even escorts and pimps can edit it  :unknown: .

Agree.  But the set up means if someone writes crap, or good content with bad spelling, any other editor/volunteer can invest 3 minutes to delete or fix.  As it stands, many punters judge the content to be pretty good, and objectively I think the spelling is even correct.

I think you are missing my point.  There is no rule against writing an illiterate, preachy list of “don’ts“ but it will not give us resource that engages the audience.
