Author Topic: Generic Tadalafil now legally sold in the UK - Cialis patent expired  (Read 1333 times)

I received an email today from lloyds Pharmacy saying that they can now sell legally generic Tadalafil (Cialis), however when I checked the prices they were still rather high. Plus you have to add the cost of the prescription.

I imagine that over the coming weeks there will be priced adjustments by way of competition as awareness grows.

What's the cheapest legally UK supplied 20mg generic Tadalafil can you get?

Currently a big price difference -  tadalafil 20mg - dr fox from 12.50 for 4 tabs, llyods 35 for 4 tabs. think I might switch supplier - although would be nice being able to collect in person rather than having them posted

I came to the same conclusion last time I looked. Dr Fox are outstanding for quality of service. Though on those prices still 12 times the going rate if you buy the stuff abroad. Someone might like to check the BNF rates (what the NHS pay if they buy them) when they update. It may well be the same as abroad — they buy are proportion of their supplies from abroad anyway, especially generics. It’s simply a case of finding a solid pharmacy and waiting for the international post to arrive.

Sildenafil (viagra generic) for instance is 98p (pack of four).

Thanks for the Dr Fox Link. I used to get a good deal on Cialis at £56 for 8 x 20mg tablets from a UK based pharmacy, but at less than 50% of the price for generic, seems mad not to swap.

Anyone any experience between Cialis and the generic version. I know the active ingrediant is the same, so there shouldn't be any should there ?

Unless it’s a rubbish generic, there’s very little that can make a difference. The coating is one, as I think someone pointed out, can make it easier to swallow but marginally slower to get into the system. I’ve never noticed much difference between the original brand and the generics I’ve tried. If you want it in your system quicker you can chew it and hold it under your tongue a bit. It’s slightly bitter tasting though. Tablets have a very long shelf life if stored properly. The use-by date is just an indication of the number of years it’s gone through expensive testing. Tablets last longer than capsules or gel (though I haven’t heard of any capsules on the market).

Happy self-medicating.  :hi:

Sorry for the ignorance here..

But you don’t need a prescription for this?  Or have I got that totally wrong?

yes its still a prescription drug - although some online suppliers will ask a few medical questions then sell you a prescription

It seems like retailers are just profiteering. It will be interesting to see if prices do come down over time as online-only companies take the initiative.
