Social Messaging Apps

Advice please and sorry if this has been covered here before.

I don't have a punting phone as I can't be doing with having to hide and swap out sim cards or even another phone. This works for me mainly as I am not on WhatsApp, facebook or anything like that so they cant trace my number to anything. I am only 40 but I prefer to catch up with friends in person.

Lately I am getting more pressure from friend and family, ladies on SA, FabSwingers and even AW to chat on WhatsApp or Link? or whatever. What are my options if I want to maintain my online privacy? Can I safely chat to family and ladies on these Apps without my privacy being blown.

Any input much appreciated.

short answer  NO, if you wish to retain your privacy then don't have any number that is linked to any social media acount

The only really secure ones will require her to have the same app and she won’t have it.

As above, secure apps, such as ‘Telegram’ and ‘Signal’ aren’t currently that popular.

However, since May of this year, rumours keep cropping up that WhatsApp are going to start putting adverts on their app !

If that does happen, I can see people ditching Whstsapp for the likes of the two apps I mentioned above.

Get a cheap punting phone, mine is a cheap ‘Mobiwire Ayasha’ 2G phone, only £12 in Asda, topped up with vouchers bought in cash from self service tills in supermarkets.

Too risky get yourself a cheap phone or smartphone if you want to use WhatsApp etc and say its a emergency backup and keep it in the car plus you can actually use it as a emergency phone if need be.

The way I see it, the whole point of a messaging app is that you can chat freely with a lady through the day as time permits. If you can't do this then may as well just text message.

I don't want to be disappearing to the car every minute to swap out sims or phones, this would attract serious attention! No criticism of you guys, just the reality of the situation.

I only use one phone, fake name for Kik, snapchat etc. I use whatsapp on my phone my real name. Facebook real account set to friends only. It’s never linked from any other account.

I have also had problems with google as I used an old phone as a punt phone and hadn't logged out off google before swapping sim cards

took me a while to realise my mistake so I had to do a lot of file history deleting

Can't an escort just trace your phone number to your real whatsapp accout that way. I dont even do whatsapp with friends and family for that very risk...

No not if you have your privacy settings correct. If anyone searches my number it doesn’t come up.

Then you need to look at ‘Hushed’ or a similar app, which you download to your phone, and then, for a few quid a month, you get given a virtual mobile number, including some minutes and texts, and you make and receive calls and texts through the app.

IIRC correctly, hushed costs £1.99 a month, with discounts for longer periods.

From my experience, KiK doesn’t show or link to a phone number, so it’s somewhat different to WhatsApp in that regard, does offer better privacy from that angle.

A WhatsApp account contains little more than your display name which you set and can be anything you choose such as an initial only (photo and other info is optional), plus it has good privacy control settings.

Girls with your number in their contacts will see you on WA (display name only) and can message you on there which may be an issue if a notification pops up at a bad time but as they already have your number can do this via call or text anyway.

The biggest identifier is your telephone number as many social media apps and accounts link this automatically or hidden within settings, but as you stated you're not on these there's little risk to you. I suggest you Google your number first, also in quotation marks, with and without the space after 'area code' fifth number to check.

For most others a punting phone is the best option.

Using the same smartphone for your punting and your personal life is a recipe for disaster, apps are constantly being updated without you knowing what the updates are doing, and there's hundreds of bad things which could happen....

Get a dual SIM phone. Most of the dual SIM phones allow some apps (including whatsapp) to be cloned so that your punting SIM whatsapp is kept separate from your normal one.
You can enable the punting SIM only when you need it and then just be careful which SIM you call from

Nothing is safe if you use the same phone. Even kik which has no links that I know of could easily be taken over by another company (eg facebook) and then suddlnly you’re linked and you didnt even know it. Best to be safe and stick with a seperate phone. I just keep an old one at work for “emergencies” which the missus knows about so no worries if she ever sees it

Never get this obsession with wanting to whatsapp with a wg. I make my choice, ring her, send a text or two with instructions and off we go.

To answer your question though, if you get any popular social media or messaging application then it'll be traceable.

Get a new pay as you go sim only for this purpose, and cheapest smartphone. I keep two PAYG sim cards, as ' my regular sim does not have good coverage everywhere'.

As I have found out to my cost recently, never use your personal phone with social media apps on them on which to make bookings. It will get you into trouble. Use a phone that can make calls and texts on with a PAYG sim and minimise the hassle.

Used to make bookings using my personal phone which I stupidly believed was fine. After a negative experience I left a review to match and was threatened with being outed. After checking the possible ramifications of this (which were that it was highly unlikely for anything to happen) it gave me a wake up call to use a punting phone.

My foolish actions caused me worry and cost me in other ways. I learned the hard way to always use a punting phone, it makes things so much easier.
