No most don't browse anon
Sorry I don't understand virtualwaster, I don't use a VPN or proxy or anything if that is what you mean. I would think every punter would want to be anonymous?

Well the error you are getting is the sort of error you get when using a VPN or proxy.  Was just trying to help you out with your error, don't do mind reading sorry.  Have you tried on inprivate browsing ?

Hi VW, I have tried with three different IP addresses on different days using the same UK ISP I have used for years. I know adultwork sometimes tries to force random escorts to verify in order to close their profiles and keep their credits but I have never heard this happening to a punter. If this has not happened to anyone else then I assume adultwork have cocked up and think my IP is foreign.

Is this an excuse by adultwork to try an IDtheft/credit card verification scam? I tried to subscribe to a private gallery for 60p and instead got this message:

"Where are you?
You have been brought to this page because it is not possible to identify the country that you are consuming content from.  We need to know this so that you're not charged the wrong sales tax.
At the moment prices are being shown to you inclusive of UK VAT at 20% where appropriate.  To confirm your location please perform one or more of the following: ..."

It then lists a number of options which are variations of providing ID or card details. The least dangerous was replying to a text message. Has anyone done this method? I am assuming the text message is some sort of premium rate. There is no way I am giving my details to some unknown pimp who is probably working for the Russian mafia, if they try this on with every punter no one is going to use their site.

They're at it with us too. They need to know how much VAT to charge, as it's different all over the EU. So they are making everyone verify their location.

It's a shit sandwich.

If I am required to link my real identity, I will never spend any money on AW ever again. Ok so my very limited purchases won't be a huge loss to AW but I'm sure I am not alone.

Thinking about it now...Lets say 90% of guys don't verify their location, so that will strip AW of camming, movies, PG sales, RB, Marketplace etc incomes. It strips it right back to being JUST an escort site. Prices for displaying phone number, featuring etc will have to increase. Ladies will find other/cheaper options to advertise, plus offer paid for galleries, movies, camming etc for cash in other non-AW places.

Then AW will either become THE biggest site for escort finding...or go under. I know what my credits are on.

I got the same, tried the text thing but unless your number is allowed to be used on 18+, it won't work.  And to do that with an o2 sim they want credit card details! Er, no!

What confuses me is how they can charge "VAT" on a purchase using credits.

Surely the original transaction from the user's account to AW was *to purchase the credits in the first place*

In which case VAT should be charged on new purchases of credits (so £10 of credit would cost £12 to include the £2 to the taxman) but those already bought would  have been bought under the old rules.

That's a very good point... But HMRC appear to have precedent for everything they do. I suspect they have the same issue with VAT on supermarket savings clubs where you buy stamps and VAT amount changes during the year. Believe me there'll be a VAT manual page covering it!!

Or you can go in an O2 shop and show them your ID (if they ask for it) and tell them to lift the 18+ adult content bar

AW wont let me spend money. I've tried different browsers and even a UK proxy and it still doesn't like me. I can't subscribe to any galleries now. This isn't on.

Found a way round it, do a premium rate call to add credits.

And the premium rates are itemised right at the top of the phone bill.

It turns out Paysafecard is just the new name for ukash and operates the same anonymous cash voucher scheme, not a credit card as I had assumed. I put in a tenner voucher using this and now I am sorted.

That's OK then, didn't think that was meant to work any more with adult premium numbers.  Anyhow if it worked for you happy days !

I've just been given a 'VAT refund' on five direct cam shows I've done since October. Has anyone else noticed this? Has something changed with regard to VAT charges?
