Yes, I still enjoy it, that is probably most of the time. It's my hobby, one of them anyway, and the most expensive. I worked out that it costs me on average about £7 a day or £2500-ish a year. That's probably on a par with golf (no pun intended) or being a football supporter or fishing, any one of which could cost that or more. There are many thoughtful replies on this topic and I appreciate all those who have so far contributed. It shows that we all think about our pastime and that we tend to be intelligent people. The grey areas of it do concern the morality question. We all feel we're not doing anyone any harm, that we are doing no wrong. However, there are those in the world who would definitely disagree, and we know that. This isn't the case with golf or football or fishing. I keep this aspect of my life to myself and I don't need to keep it secret or lie about it. I just choose not to go telling all and sundry. It's none of their business what I do in my free time with my money. I do this because I don't need their almost inevitable self-righteous judgementalism. I have 2 friends, whom I met through punting, who obviously know and they still indulge in it as well. Often we compare notes but we tend to like different things. Our conversations now are probably only 5% about punting.
The parts I still enjoy are, as someone else has said, the planning, the getting there, the anticipation and of course, mostly, the being there with a willing, nice looking and experienced young woman. I try to say to myself, while I'm there, "Wow! This is good." I stay in the moment. When it's over and I'm leaving I usually feel a little sad maybe, disappointed perhaps, let down possibly; I don't know exactly, it's a strange one and I think it's just normal really and comes from being excited, happy and then it's over till the next time. I've felt the same way when I've played sport and it's over, or performed on stage and it's over, so I guess it's similar. I soon come out of it and after a week or two start anticipating the next time.
