OUTCOME: NEGATIVE
I knocked on the door and was told by a woman's voice 'Busy' which I presumed that she was busy so I made my way outside. I then waited 10 mins in the comic book shop before trying again. Again I was met with the reply that she was busy.
Sorry to laugh but by this point any soho regular knew you weren't getting in... not there anyway.
Fucking 3 hrs! Soho can be really shit sometimes but at least you never got clipped which is what happened to me on my first attempt back in 1997...
In those days (which was pre-cctv) the primary reason for not accommodating black guys was robbery... soho (and the west end really) was full of crack heads, bag snatchers, clippers and criminals of all kinds and robbery was a real possibility for punters and establishment
Unless they were careful and streetwise...
That may sound racist but there used to be gangs of black guys hanging around looking for trouble or some kind of action
There also used to be photo fits (supplied by the police) on the back of most doors (you don't see them as much now not sure why) of sex offenders known to target hookers (violence / abuse / robbery etc)...
I don't think your problem was the urban myth I think this was mistaken identity or they didnt like your appearance for some reason (hat? streetwear?) or maybe trying to get into peter street for 3 hrs rang the alarm bells and some communication went out over the walk up air waves...
I personally never knock more twice... it's a waste of time as you now know.
Your approach of research and target was absolutely right and correct... but you can always be scuppered by not getting in... even if your white... and the more walk ups that close down the worse it gets... thats why soho can be and very often is - shit.
I am fairly sure that most walk ups now accommodate blacks... any particular girl may have her own rules of course however...
Nadia is hardly 5 feet tall so if you are a basket ball player I can see why a maid might think twice..
research and target, careful how you dress, remember they can see you on the stairs, don't hang around...
