I remember back in the day that punting was done via the local newspaper or shop window adverts. I have no idea if the local rag still runs these adverts, but from my last recollection, the ads were all agency.

I had a few excellent punts from newspaper adverts. The best by far was in around 1995. A really hawt girl with a awesome body. I asked her why she was doing this, she didn't seem the type. She told me she owed the owners of the flat money, so this is how she was paying it off. I was a bit shocked tbh. The advert never appeared again.

Shop windows were also a great resource. I can't recall the last time I saw an advert in window. Has this been stopped too ?

About 4 years ago, I saw a girl advertising on Craigs List. She only gave HR but she was very nice. I've not checked CL recently, but last time I did, there were just freaks and scams.

Does anyone have any suggestions for alternative ways of finding SP's or interesting memories of the past in this respect.

Local papers - not so long ago some in my area still ran personal ads for massage and escorts

Free Ads Mart, this also had a personal services section

Going back a long way but I found one girl from an ad in The Sport!

There are a lot of ladies advertising just massage on Gumtree but many are quite happy to offer extras too, you might find more is on offer after you have visited a few times.

Ah, those were the days!

I remember  working in an office in Central London  next to a window that overlooked a bank of telephone boxes. We used to pass the time by watching the boxes when the guy came along to post all the cards in the box. then someone , probably from the Council came along to remove them.

Then we would time how long it was before the guy came back to put them back up, and so the process went on. The nearest to guess the right time won the prize for the day.

I suppose the real winner was the guy who printed off the cards

When I first started punting (around 36 years ago!) it was all based around ads in the Southend Evening Echo, the Standard Recorder and the Yellow Advertiser. There used be almost 2 whole pages of ads in the Echo, some for agencies but a lot for independent SP's. I think I worked my way through pretty much all of them back in the day.

Since the laws re escorting/prostitution changed, things have become a bit of a grey area as far as advertising/touting goes. Escorting is still legal (i.e. paying for someone to escort you to a function or hotel room, and anything that then happens is between two consenting adults), but advertising sexual services is illegal. That change in the law pretty much frightened every newspaper into stopping the print of escorting ads.

What's strange is that websites offering escorts are considered legal, as they're somehow seen as reducing the risk of exploitation of the SP's, fewer SP's on the streets and fewer brothels. However, the change in law made it illegal to pay for sex, criminalising us the punters rather than the SP's.

Years ago I also used to rely on the Southend RLD, especially in summer as a lot of new girls would suddenly appear to make the most of the extra seasonal business that the summer tourism trade bought to Southend. As we're coming up to Christmas I expect to find some new women working the RLD in the hope of making some extra cash. It happens virtually every year.

It was a very sad time when all of the local brothels and established parlours were shut down. Some of them had some excellent and really good looking women working in them.

Nowadays, I mainly stick to a set of regulars, or when I'm feeling especially seedy I'll resort back to the RLD.

I've also created a facebook account that I use to add some of the local SP's as friends. I've found that a lot of their "friends" are sometimes open to offering services too. Obviously, a certain amount of discretion is needed when asking questions.

Re Craigslist, I've had some results by placing an ad looking for services. There was also a young slim local girl with blue/green who I met a few times last year after seeing her ad on there.

Nice to hear tales from the past but your understanding of the law is inaccurate. There's no offence of paying for sex as long as certain criteria aren't breached. Like the person being an adult and not being coerced.
