Off to Costa Rica in February and wondering if anyone has any tips for punting while out there?  Went 10 years ago and did stay at Hotel Del Rey, San Jose a couple of times, and it was there that I started punting    My Spanish is ok but not fluent by any means.  I'll be staying in San Jose with a friend but hope to travel around and probably even up to Nicaragua at some point.

I've been there.  It was fun and cheap.  DO NOT get a taxi to go to some random place.  When I was drunk with a mate the taxi driver took us to some random strip club/ brothel where the girls wanted $150-200 dollars.  It was crazy.

I stayed for a few hrs, had some drunks and played with 2 girls.

Nicaragua was fun but I didn't punt there.

Thanks for the tips,  I'm going to start with Hotel Del Rey and go from there, if I remember correctly it was also about $50 a punt.  Also been using Craigslist but the responses are about $150 which I know is too high for CR.

No way I'd do $150 unless I knew I was getting exceptional services from the girl.  But you can feel free to pay that amount .  Your money your choices I say.

There is a stripclub/ brothel near the hostel in the link.  I met this US guy who took me there.  It was like $10 entry but that included 2 drinks.  You chill in your chair/ booth area and the girls dance.  The girls will then come over and they are about $50 or so for 30mins.  Nice rooms at the back, nice shower, mirrors on the ceiling and porn playing on the tv.  It was OW but she was hot and I enjoyed fucking the girls there.  I went back on my return trip back in to San Jose.

I popped in to the hotel del rey about midday or so and it was dead quiet but I didn't stay for long.  I just wanted to check it out.  It's suppose to be great for punting from what I've read.

No I won't be paying that amount!  Will check your recommendations out and thank you for that.  Re Hotel Del Rey, I guess best is to go in the evenings and on weekends as it something out of this world - the bars are full of hookers, maybe 200 plus and from what I've recently read it is still going strong

Ok back from my trip to Costa Rica and thought I would share my experiences.

Prostitution is legal in Costa Rica and kept very much above board as in hotels will encourage prostitutes to punt for business in their bars and if you bring back a girl the hotel will take her passport (carrying id is mandatory there) for 2 reasons: 1. to ensure she is over age and 2. for security i.e. if she steals or there is a problem then the passport can be with held.  I had no problems with any of the girls I saw but was sensible and kept valuables locked up.

There are streetwalkers but these are generally transsexuals.

Pimping is illegal in Costa Rica and most girls work independently but I did meet a few people, male and female, who wanted to introduce me to their friend and one time I did see a family drop off Mum to go working - the husband and kids wishing her a good night.

All prices are in USD as Costa Ricans set their prices by the dollar.

In San Jose first stop should be Hotel Del Rey in the evening.

I didn't get a chance to visit the hotel this trip but did my last trip and it was great.  Packed with girls (probably about 300 working girls) it has been described as the largest meat market in the world and by all accounts is still going strong.  Costa Rica's smoking in public laws put me off booking a room there this time (plus it is very popular with Americans and hard to book).

It is a lot quieter than Del Rey and the girls don't hassle you.  I did pick up a nice girl here and she took me back to Hotel La Oficina which charges $10 for 3 hours and does provide condoms.

It is a shit hole and in a not so good area of town but when I went no one else (thankfully) was using the hotel and hailed a cab soon after the girl had left.

While in San Jose I stayed with a friend who lives near the university and used craigslist to meet a student a couple of times in my friend's flat.  Although she charged me $150 for an hour and a half I didn't mind as she was able to meet after classes around lunchtime.

However, the best place for me wasn't in San Jose but in Jaco which is on the Pacific coast and very popular with Americans, very touristy but very good fun.

You need to phone to book a room at this hotel which starts at $150 and is very popular so unless it is a Monday or a Tuesday don't expect to show up without a reservation and expect a room.  Recommend the Ocean view and pool view rooms as the Courtyard is the parking lot and can be noisy as everyone leaves.

The pool bar is where the action happens here and it starts filling up from about 7pm and by 9pm there are about 200 working girls on any given night (I visited Tuesday to Friday nights and found Tue/Wed nights to be best).  There is a mix of girls from Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Dom Republic and Colombia.  But the best thing is there are only about 40/50 guys at the bar so it is a 4 or 5 girls to one guy ratio!  By 1am it is shut and everyone gone so if you've booked a pool side room you will get some sleep.

It was so good I came back the following week to be sure it was as good as I thought it was.

Although most will say the price is $150 for an hour the usual price is $100 and most girls will sell at that price - one girl offered me $80.  I did pay $150 but only because she was very hot and another $120 for the same reason but all others I paid $100.  I even arranged a foursome at another hotel from 3 girls I met here for $200.  And another girl I paid $350 for 24 hours.

In Jaco I also stayed at Copacabana Hotel because it was smoker friendly.

Hotels at Jaco are overpriced so expect to pay more for less.  Jaco is small and you can walk everywhere but if needed taxis will take you about town for about $2.  The girls don't mind going back to your hotel from Cocal but do expect the return taxi to be paid.  Copacabana had some working girls drop by all day but when in Jaco, Cocal remains the best choice. 

I did stop by the Beatle Bar for a couple of beers but it was very quiet and the girls pretty average looking.  This bar was formerly where the prostitutes would ply their trade but a change of ownership killed that scene off and now all the girls go Cocal.

Sex and oral is with a condom with little variation from that service, Costa Rica doesn't have the same services as Europe.  Speaking some Spanish helps a lot as the girls usually only speak little or no English beyond $100.

Thanks for sharing this report. I've wondered about a trip to CR, but to be honest those prices put me off. I'll take SE Asia any day. Perhaps it makes sense for Americans (especially those in Florida or the southern states where it's only a 3-hour flight away) but for us in the UK, we've got a much better domestic scene to start with, Germany on our doorstep, and if you feel like flying half way round the world then you might as well head for Asia.

True, I wouldn't just go to CR for hookers especially all the way from the UK it would not be worth it.  I was visiting a friend who ended busy with work so had some time to kill...and I like those Latin girls : )

But just thinking about it now the nicest thing about that bar in Jaco was having alot of women around to choose from, and they were passive sellers even though most of them wouldn't make any money that night.  Although the internet is great in a lot of ways, trawling through site after site hoping you make a good choice leaves alot to be desired...

Interesting reports. I would imagine that Colombia is the nearest cost-effective punting destination from C.R. these days, though more challenging. I don't know about the rest of Central America though. Did you get a feel for Nicaragua?

Thanks for the report. Interesting read as i am thinking about where to go next for a beach holiday in the sun. Dominican Republic was one country i was thinking about but Costa Rica looks like a better option. I had a friend (female) suggest i visit Nicaragua as it was beautiful and great fun out there. But now with the addition of punting, i might have to look into this further. I have a weakness for latino women!

I've lived twice in Nicaragua though before I started punting. I've been back several times since and though I haven't punted there, I have a pretty good idea of what happens there. Overall much of the sex industry is informal and casual on an opportunist basis. Generally if you're European or North American it's unbelievably easy to pick up very attractive women, young and MILFy without having to trawl the areas where street girls are (in Managua) or brothels that the taxi drivers might find for you where the practice of barebacking is all too likely. Find the bars, exchange numbers with the girl you meet, phone or text her when she's not with her friends (as she almost certainly will be when you first meet her), and arrange to meet; without her gang of friends who will inevitably accompany her (you don't want them along to cramp your style or have to pay for their drinks as well!). This may be in a relatively public place at first as she may be a bit apprehensive at first. Normally she won't present herself as a hooker but will often be delighted with some cash for her efforts. Be sure to bring condoms yourself as she almost certainly won't have them. After two or three meetings in which sex takes place, she may start to get clingy, and she may start to make noises about having to pay medical bills for her mothers or repairs to her sister's roof, etc. At that point, it can get expensive but if you're smart you simply throw away your SIM card (originally bought for that very purpose), buy another and repeat with another woman.

As posters have noted, there are plenty Nica hookers in Costa Rica. Because there is more work and better paid work in CR, many Nicas go to work illegally there in all kinds of industry. Often they are unpopular with the local Ticos (Costa Ricans).
