I think this a myth created by those who don't really understand punting.
Of course, given enough money, you can pick up some one from any overpriced bar in the West End. Allegedly, the bar at the restaurant in Harvey Nichols was supposed to be a pick up point for expensive WG but a chef I know who has worked in this restaurant says it is a myth, or at least doesn't happen very often. However, the restaurant scene in London is very fickle, and what is the centre of attraction know soon becomes passé, so I suppose if you have money to burn then Novikov in Berkeley street could be a possibility, or maybe Sexy Fish - just depends which establishment gets the most publicity and becomes the "place to be seen".
After all this hassle and time you could have booked a top class escort for less money, less time wasted and less stress, unless of course, you enjoy sending your money on the thrill of the chase.
