Bars in SE Asia usually have a load of girls there to attract guys into the establishment (and generate extra revenue via lady-drinks, which are usually sugary low-alcohol drinks sold for several times their actual worth), if you want to take a girl from the bar (for whatever reason, that's between you and the girl), the bar wants compensation for loss of revenue, from both new customers coming in the girl would have attracted, and the drinks bought for that girl. This compensation is called a barfine, the price of the barfine varies depending on the venue, the day, and sometimes even the time of the day.
