Author Topic: Google no longer indexing phone numbers on VS or AW?  (Read 1296 times)

Offline scutty brown

I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that Google searches seem to have stopped finding phone numbers on Vivastreet and Adultwork.
AW always was a bit hit-and-miss, but Google usually found them on AWLISTS without a problem.
Now, as far as I can see, nothing. Could just be a coincidence, but I don't think so. Looks to me as if something is blocking Google from indexing the phone numbers on the sites

Yes, just did a quick check and Google returned no results for a phone number that is there on Vivastreet, AW lists, EA Advisor.

But a search from a number in Kommons did link to Escort Advisor, but not Vivastreet or AW, even though it's the same number on all 4 platforms.

I was incognito and not signed in (of course) so had not age verfied to Google before searching.

Don't know who is filtering out who - is it google not indexing AW or AW (and VS ? ) not allowing indexing by Google ?

I wonder if the new Online Safety Bill is behind the change.

As I understand it the actual terms & requirements of the OSB have yet to be determined by Offcom, the actual details have yet to be set. I may be wrong but I would be surprised if anything has been put in place so quickly.

Maybe another reason then, but something has definitely changed

Yes, thank you - Ofcom saying they will consult on the expected standards once it passes into law was useful but there was a lot of press release and PR puff to wade through first.

I've just searched for my own phone number using Google including the 0, my AW profile comes up in the results.

Also noticed this recently; if searching for numbers from new profiles it seems increasingly rare to get any matches.  Could be co-incidence but quite possibly Google restricting indexing of adult sites.

The reason why i referenced dropping the 0 is because numerous Awank profiles show +447 etc

That's what I understood about your post, so first I tried my number without the 0, no result no listing. I then tried with 0, that's when my AW (and other presences) were listed.

AW list the number in international format.

the profile pages (non mobile site) have this tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex">whether this is new added or not hard to tell, so in theory these pages on the main url should not be indexed so phone numbers should not appear
however it seems that pages like my.adultwork m.adultwork and others dont have this so might get indexed

Strawberry when you search your telephone number what page is indexed, is it the main site page ?

Using my mobile Google Chrome the AW result link takes me straight to the mobile site version of my profile. The result on Google has both international and 0 version of my phone number, plus a bit of my AW summary.

Seems it might be a user set option on aw.

Some profiles allow indexing and have
<meta name="robots" content="index, nofollow">

...while others have noindex, as Tall Paul notes
