Author Topic: Cloud Sim - 2nd mobile number on phone: Life saver for punters!!  (Read 2748 times)

Offline ars.mav

Dear Admin, Fellow Punters:

UKP forum and it's members have given me a lot. It's time I share a technique that has been literally a life saver

One of the biggest issue in a punter's life is communicating with SP's through phone, traceability, security, privacy etc. For the longest of times I used to punt with a second cheaper handset as the best option. However, I was recommend "Cloud Sim" app by a mate and it's been incredible. Let me clarify neither do I work for Cloud Sim or want to advertise for it. Just sharing what I think is a very useful app. If the admin thinks this is an advertisement, please delete the post - no hard feelings

The way it works is by installing the app (works for both Android and iPhone ecosystems) you get a temporary number randomly assigned by the system whilst your original number stays. You have the option for 1 month (£0.99), 6 month (£3.99) or 12 months (£6.99) subscription. So for example if you top up with £10, then the system takes off the subscription value and then generates a completley random number using which you can call/text SP's through the app interface. And it works like any other mobile network in terms of call rates or sms charges - very cheap.

I took a 1 year subscripton. If you fancy changing number every month then take 1 month subscription and keep topping up monthly.

It works very well and gives the much desired privacy and security whilst freely engaging with SP's.

Any questions, let me know  :hi:

Happy punting!

No financial interest, Lewisjones23..just sharing what is works for me..if you still feel so, I'll take this post down myself

Offline daveyjones

I've been using it for a while as someone on here previously recommended it.

It’s a great app and better for me than having a second phone which could get discovered and lead to questions!

One tip though, if you install it I turned off notifications otherwise you get replies to texts popping up on screen. Another bonus, you can have more than one number active.

Just downloaded it.

Good luck with that

How dies this app handle other apps like facebook? If I use facebook on ny normal phone along with this app, will I show up on hookers friend recomendations? Will facebook add this number to it's harvested information about me? What if I use whatsapp?

Thanks for the reccomendation. I'm sure it's a great app and you'll be successful if you can enough initial users to sign up for it, but as it's unclear how this app may or may not interact with other apps that hold my real personal info I'll stick to a punting phone

In the settings, after installing, haven't given access to contacts, media, allow recording etc. hence hasn't interferred so far with the other apps like facebook/watsapp (both of these function normally with your original phone number)

And also as a habit after each punt, I clean up Cloud Sim app with no trace of recent calls/contacts/sms etc.

No good if your Missus uses your phone though! Mine can unlock mine with Apple Touch and she often borrows it to call my family or text the kids. I think I'll stick with my punter iphone that justs sits around the house with all the old iphones that we've built up over the years.

Offline PeachyAssFan

I presume that it has an icon on your phone. Which if your other half sees might ask what’s it called and why do you need it. No doubt mumsnet will be aware.

Yeah, the icon is there but gf doesn't know as yet since its hidden within folders  ;)

On a lighter note, mumsnet will learn some tech

Too many things could go wrong with it, as someone said above, facebook could harvest the data, what happens when data get disconnected or lose signal

I just seen this on the website as well

Why does Cloud Sim require my mobile phone number?
Cloud Sim uses your mobile phone number to validate your account and to send you an activation code.
When you call or SMS from your SIM profile your number will display as the caller ID.
Your Cloud Sim contacts will know they can call you for free.

Not worth the risk.

Offline Steve2

I have used Cloudsim for more than 6 months and no problems at all. Especially useful in US as calls are only 1p/minute

Same, privacy from other half not a major issue with me, but don't want to risk it crossing over with my personal social media profiles.

thanks for the recommendation.  Do you get to keep the same (new) number for the entirety of the contract or does it generate a new number every so often..?

Anyone know if you can use whatsapp thru the cloudsim number? I dont use it (whatsapp) now but would like to for punting related activities but my punting phone is sooo old

Yes, same number for entirety of contract (monthly, 6 month or 1 year)..if you change monthly, you'll get a different number each month

Haven't tried watsapp as yet with cloud sim..text and call does it..though doubt android or iphone ecosystem would allow multiple watsapp's on a single device

I agree as I do have the same thing. I would like to have a phone with whatapp and able to receive images in the future however but I will need to research this as Im guessing it can be quite costly with PAYG.

£10 a month or less - not that expensive .

I would guess that my phone contacts will be accessible by Cloud SIM, so anything can happen from there....

Soft sim will become outdated and go away at some point

Cloud SIM/Virtual SIM will be the future and the standard.

£10 x.12 months = £120 = 1 hour sex that could be amazing. The free ones such as Hushed or TextMe work in the same way so there's no reason to pay £10/month.

It's not entirely clear if the number Cloudsim displays as the caller ID is the temporary number you've been assigned, or your actual real phone number.  If it's the latter, that's a big problem, NEVER give an escort access to an actual phone number registered in your name!  But it would be strange for Cloudsim to do that.  Can someone check?

Even if it's the temporary number (which seems more likely), you have to weigh the risk of your wife/girlfriend finding a separate punting phone (or sim), versus the risk of either your wife/girlfriend finding the app on your phone, or a malicious escort tracing you through it.  Presumably if she makes a bogus allegation against you to get the police involved, they could ask Cloudsim for your real number anyhow.

Anonymity for punters is needed for two reasons: to hide your activities from your partner, and to protect you from "rogue" escorts (blackmailers or crazies: something I unfortunately have experience of, so the danger IS real).  An unregistered punting phone could be found by your partner, but in the rogue escort situation, even the police would have difficulty tracing it to you (and they probably wouldn't bother unless the accusation against you was very convincing: as they're known to monitor UKpunting, I doubt that they would act on an allegation from someone known to be dodgy, but you never know).

I have used Freedom pop (was free now £3.50 a month), just install the app and can use it for texts and calls, also use WhatsApp ++ from tutu.app but that tends to die each month and loose all the chats, but does a job when required.

does save having two phones but not risk free like a nokia 6210

I don't trust the interactions with other apps that are aggressively harvesting contact info and assuming it all belongs in one big pot.

Android implementations across handsets does not consistently allow the segregation of user/SIM related details.  I had 2 SIMs in a phone but couldn't create 2 users, one for each number.  I couldn't create and run separate WhatsApp instances for each number on the phone.

If you login with more than one Google ID the contacts info is amalgamated behind the scenes by WhatsApp, it does not obey the display preference in Contacts nor does it allow you to choose a different address book for WhatsApp.  Result was that on one device I had all my personal and punting contacts mixed and potentially transmitted to FB, WhatsApp and other entities scraping my phone for commercially useful info.  I received FB and LinkedIn prompts for new "people you know" who may have also been invited to connect with contacts from my RL ID and RL contacts!
These exploitative organisations have no consideration for privacy so NEVER intersect your separate lives on a device.

My 2p

2 months using Cloud SIM

Advantages

Very discrete to use in public, I can use where a punting Phone might raise arkward questions

Takes care of rotating your phone number. With the above, this has swung it for me.

Possibility of running two numbers simultaneously with associated advantages.

Immediate feedback on call charges - totalled after each and every use.

Disadvantages

Buggy - seems prone to misconection and freezing on my phone

More expensive?  I am certainly more aware of how much I spend on calls.

Ring back (you dial the number and send, it then calls you back before connecting the call) takes a little getting used to.

The number allocated by cloudsim is the one that shows to whoever you call.

Offline blackburnian

No.

So I'd reckon £120 for the privacy afforded by a separate sim/phone is a reasonable deal !

Good summary. Unfortunately most people don't understand how apos are harvesting everything they can and send the data back to the mothership.

I'm mentioning this only because there might be some tech savvy readers who might be able to solve this mystery.
15 years ago I sent a text giving out my home address to someone dodgy. It would not be in my interest to have this info found on his mobile phone. Later I looked in my sent text messages and my sent text message had been altered to " I'll call you later."  This is what happened but how the heck did my message change?

Offline winkywanky

Is 'I'll call you later' one of the auto-messages in your phone's software? Perhaps this message in your phone has reverted to this after such a long time?

But of course that wouldn't have any influence on what might have happened to your message in the other guy's message app. in his phone, once the message is sent, it's sent, and he may still have it.

Cloud?  Fuck that for a game of soldiers.  Someone in another branch at work opened a dodgy email recently, we were hacked, and not sure what happened (I assume the mistake was realized and corrected before we got a real data breach on our hands), but apparently IT said they could have very easily got access to info stored in our Cloud.  So I wouldn't touch anything like this with a 40ft bargepole.  I'll stick to my burner phone, cheers.

+1 not to mention aggressively harvesting data by trying to link up with everything around including;

I use "Another Number" on Iphone for a similar price, it runs as an App and doesn't reveal my personal number, only the punting one. Notifications are off unless I'm on the way to a punt and the app is buried several screens deep on my phone but the other half would never look that far - it doesn't allow for Whatsapp or any other similar service so that number can't leak onto any other App.
