When I looked a few minutes ago at reviews of London OPs, 8 of the first 14 were Negative. I've been out of action for some time, so can't comment, but are things really going downhill, or is this sample as reliable as the opinion polls before the last Election?

Election polls generally ask more that 14 people.

I grant you it's a way to initiate a debate but your rationale is very flawed. You're looking at a brief snapshot of 14 reviews most of which are likely written recently but some may have been written last year or before but just get bumped up to the top after someone has added a new post. I'd also hypothesise that, in general, people reply/respond more to negative reviews than positive ones so there is a higher concentration of negs towards the top of the list at any given time.

There are too many other variables involved (e.g. mood of the country, shrinking pool of SPs, rising costs and lower VFM, stagnant membership) to come up with anything more than a subjective view. However, personally, yes we're sliding into a dip as far as punting is concerned.

You haven't punted in four years, why do you care?

Also note that when a thread is replied to it goes to the top and I've found that negative reviews get more replies so perhaps not a true sense of the negative to positive ratio

Offline Fuzzyduck

Only 3 of the top 14 London reviews were negative as of right now, OP. Is this a sign of future prosperity, growth and great punts?

Offline ProtocolDroid

Hear hear. Bear in mind also that the UK is a little bigger than just London. You may have noticed that on this forum there are one or two other sub-forums dedicated to other regions, which (for now at least) are all part of the same country.

Unfortunately, I wish I would disagree with the overall suggestion but to my mind the quality of SPs and their services, in areas where I've experienced them, are certainly not improving.

That's correct, and given my age and state of health, it's unlikely to change, but I have become an enthusiastic patron of the FSBM sector and regularly contribute to that forum. I didn't see why that should prevent me from raising what I thought was an interesting point on UKP. I am grateful to those of you who pointed out that it wasn't an interesting point and gave reasoned replies to my question, as opposed to making a sour, smart-arsed remark.

Here's a thought which might contribute to an answer for the OP: perhaps the mind-set of ukpunting reviewers is more critical/less vanilla [fluffy] than AW Field Report writers?

I surely can't be the only punter on here to have heard SPs, erm, 'grumble' about our Reviews and by extension, the whole of this Board.

I think one thing is that punters are now paying more and more money for a booking and that raises the level of expectation, which is not often met by subsequent events. Good providers have always been few and far between, but they are still out there, seek and you shall find, eventually.

In my limited world of punting things really are going downhill.
When a WG bothers herself to reply to a message I am amazed, even more so if we actually agree a booking.

As an enthusiastic patron of the FBSM sector why haven't you contributed any reviews in four yours?

I think he must be implying he posts on a specialised forum (auto-censored part removed), not this one, still no excuse for not posting here though.

It may have escaped your notice that FBSM reviews are suitable for posting here as well. In fact they would be welcome.
Four years, fourteen posts, no reviews. Hardly contributing to the site
