Yeah, I'm in the habit of using the "new replies" option as I find it an easy way to keep up with replies to posts or comments that aren't on the forum sections I frequent. Just feels like an option to 'unsubscribe' from threads would be useful as replies are flagged as infinitum on any thread commented on, and discussions move on. It's no big deal obviously, just thought I might be missing a trick somewhere. It's not like I'm getting an alert on my phone or anything
I don't understand the logic in using something that annoys you. There's loads of threads I keep an eye on along with threads I expect a reply on but I just use my post history.
I am going to reply to this here, where it has been discussed several times. (Rather than potentially derail a different thread)
I also use the new replies link. It's very useful. It's much easier for keeping track of updates to any discussions that you have an interest in, as opposed to individually checking all the separate topic boards. (P.s. By updates I just mean new posts).
For example, someone may update a old review thread that you have commented on, even one you wrote yourself. If you don't look at UKP for several days that new entry could be buried several pages deep under newer review comments (particularly on busy review boards like London.)
I read UKP alot, but even I can't go through all the boards looking for whats new since my last visit. Also, trying to keep track of new comments via my profile posting history would be even more laborious. I generally check my new replies first. Then look at the other boards to see what's new that grabs my attention.
I have also commented on some threads that I have lost interest in, but they still get regular new posts from other members. Which bumps them to the top of my "New Replies" page. So I can I understand why some members might ask if there is a way to unsubscribe from a thread. Mostly they are just wondering if there is some feature they have over looked, and asking for help.
People who press the point, saying the Forum should be updated to add that feature have to realise this is a free site. It does not have the resources to add every bell and whistle. They just have to learn to ignore a few threads on their "New Replies" Page. That's what I manage to do, and I think that's also what the vast majority of other users manage to do without any hardship. (As BR has mentioned, they could also click the "Mark all as read" after reading the ones they want if they prefer to keep the "New Replies/Updated Topics" page uncluttered.)
