Not quite dead, but in a fairly critical condition. There’s still a few WG’s that can be spotted in Brunswick and Portland Squares together with along Fishponds and Lower Ashley Roads. I’d estimate that St Werburgh’s and City Road have been devoid of activity for probably about 2 decades now. Occasionally I take a drive, just for old time’s sake, but don’t linger, let alone stop. As other contributors have said, unfortunately those remaining WG’s certainly look as if they’re battling with some serious demons which together with the increase in cameras and Police activity doesn’t make it an enticing proposition anymore. I think this is commonplace with all other towns and cities across the UK though isn’t it? Certainly for a few pounds more a much better bet is to travel a bit further into the City where a basic service in a walk in parlour is much safer all round.
