Author Topic: Could be About to be Outed as a Punter  (Read 9997 times)

Sorry to hear about this and will be very interested to hear how it turns out. But I think the odds make it so unlikely this is genuinely and almost certainly a scam attempt. As others have said -

1) We live in a population of 53 million in England. You messaged someone 100 miles away and they happen to know you and your partner. Incredible odds.
2) You mention the profile has 0 positive feedbacks so far.
3) They asked you for a pic then came up with a sob story, presumably in hopes you'd offer money to 'help out' which is beyond the pale for what a punter/WG deal should be.

Shouldn't have sent the pic but the odds of point 1 alone being genuine are so astronomical that the most likely explanation becomes some kind of scam attempt. Although I would've thought if scamming by now they'd have tried to keep the conversation going rather than going dead?

One other option about this, if it turns out to be genuine, is just to deny everything - turn the insane odds to your advantage by making out that you are being scammed by someone who knows you trying to soil your reputation or something (possibly dirty tricks as part of the divorce) and point out how ridiculous it is that you'd message someone 100 miles away and they just happen to know you and your ex. All the other party has is a pic of you and some text communication, both of which could theoretically be generated by hackers/scammers. Maybe get the pic up on social media somewhere to add weight to the story of how easy they could've 'stolen' it?

It may not be the most moral thing in history to do but deny, deny, deny is always an option when the alternative is having your life fucked up.
Thought I`d add a bit more non sense ... :drinks:

I almost ran over a chap when crossing Oxford Street in my works van   I had met him and talked at length about brexit 4 years ago in Copenhagen, Denmark. :scare: we both laughed and when on our ways ( he was a nice Banker I`m glad I did not run him over as they are rare  :D :D :D

Your Ex being a teacher meeting students ect gave me a fright as I shagged a student "touring girl " who I later met at a mates birthday bash his misses is a class room helper I was approached by her at the party " have we met you look familiar?" I explain here with OH I denied meeting and laughed and smiled with  us Grey Old Guys are all the same ..at this point my OH came over he is often mistaken for other old gits...cause he is one   I was sweating buckets. The WG she knew  I`m sure but was discrete ..Thank fully age gaps in friends ect Never saw her again moved up north :)   Closest shave ever

Is English student and English New one and the same and have her/they got previous form for this sort of thing?
stay clear of this these w.g.s.

Sorry had to chip in..

The word 'rent' has no place in a genuine message from any provider, if seen treat anything that follows with a high degree of suspicion  :wackogirl:

Somehow, you have been phished / pawned / doxed that is the ONLY explanation for it. As has been said before, you have shared far too much personally identifiable information as well

I keep my punting phone completely separate, but I got a fright when I installed Facebook messenger on said phone to research a WG. I saw my real name come up as people you may know... :scare: :scare:

I worked it out to most likely be down the fact I hadn't disabled a setting in WhatsApp which allow data to be shared with Facebook (who own WhatsApp) and the fact I had sent a WA message from another phone I own (just a second line I use for gumtree, etc) to punting phone or vice versa and it must have known this second phone is related to my real profile and made the link. Truly frightening. I soon fixed that issue anyway but do not underestimate the data sharing that goes on between WhatsApp and Facebook

Also old phones as punting phone? Bad idea..

Stay lucky

WBW

An old basic punting phone is a VERY good idea in my case and has served me well for many years, its Smartphones where problems can arise IF you don't know every feature on them as punters have reported on here over the years.

I have no intention of going near them but unless some stumbles across this thread they’re not going to know of their deeds.

Further theory...given the age gap and distance.

It’s a friend of your daughter (who could also be in the same game unbeknown to you) that works away from your home town and rather than mention your daughter’s name (particularly if she is in fact a WG as it keeps the light off her)  she’s mentioned your wife’s name as I assume she would know that (or could ask your daughter) and obviously just recognised you as her friends dad from the photograph?

The plot thickens...

+1 on the digging a deeper hole with this thread!

I think it’s safe to say that either they’re members on here or someone has gone running to them. Both profiles were active earlier today.

Id say so , even if its not attempting to scam someone surely even what went on in itself is bad enough

If she genuinely did just recognise him and this is a coincidence at most she should have just said she couldn't accept a booking and made something up or went quiet on the communications .

Telling someone you know who they are then saying you do not know if you can guarantee discretion is just plain out of order IMO and you shouldn't be an SP if you cannot deal discretely with the prospect of getting requests from people you vaguely know .

Offline hungrypunt

Maybe she did a reverse image search on your pic and googled your phone number which took her to your Facebook page ... she prob got the names of your kids and wife from social media

same as what miss cutie said  :P

Why don’t you try booking with another profile or phone and see if she try’s the same shit?
If she asks for a picture just send a random one and you’ll know by her response if it’s a scam or not.
Good luck

lets play a game

let the OP PM his phone number, and see how much info its possible to dig up from that

You could have avoided this by using a cheap pay as you go punting phone. Just ignore the escort and hopefully it should blow over.

he doesn't mind beatings, he is a forum dom. Just think of it a positive reinforcement and impact play.   :sarcastic:

The more punters that read this the better, we cannot save OP but raise awareness for the next potential fools.

I much prefer to dole out the beatings, but when I deserve one I'm willing to take one.

As for being a 'forum dom', I'm so new to this I don't know if that is a compliment or another part of the kicking I've been getting.

Like I said last night, I agree that it looks like it was a scam attempt by whoever was operating the NewEnglishStudent profile (now deactivated).

My further text responses no the day, although stupid and based on reactionary panic, must have marked me as a difficult target for extorting cash.

I'm putting it behind me.

But you can keep kicking me if you like, I deserve it.

And, VW makes a valid point, if publicizing my stupidity helps someone else avoid the same shit, then keep going.

Indeed, there is seemingly a never ending supply of mug punters/fools, if a thread like this helps one or more dodge a bullet its well worth posting up in my view.

No it didnt.if she existed, if she was a grifter you are always playing by their rules and unless they did catch wind of this thread, the lack of response could so easily been a delaying ploy to suck you in when they felt you'd stewed enough.

Stop pretending you've done anyone a favour.

If you care to read up about this you'll find you are now more likely to be a target in future because they know you've been fooled once already.

I hope you can walk away, you are the kind of mark that keeps scam artists in business, but your continuing to contribute to this thread doesn't fill me with confidence.

Read David Maurer The Big Con to understand how this works.

And as lots of people have said if it isn't a con you still need to walk. Goodbye.

Thanks for all the support, suggestions, comments and advice.

Most of all thanks for the ribbing and telling me what a fucking idiot I was.

So many mistakes in one place, I should be fucking shot.

Parts in the thread pretty sure it is a scammer now, identified, named & shamed by Private Pabove NewEnglishStudent. No further contact from them, I’ve not made any.

Unless I have missed it, you have not stated the AW name that the person contacted you on though - just that you think is same person as mentioned above.

Given all the personal information you have been willing to provide on this thread, I am a little perplexed you have not linked the AW profile the person actually contacted you from. Do you not think that would be helpful to other members incase they contact others doing same thing? :unknown: :unknown:

And as I pointed out earlier, when the profiles were active their phone numbers were almost identical with one ending in 86 and the other in 90.  One claimed to be in Cambridge the other in Oxford!  One had a likes list that included almost everything while the other was about 1/3 as long.  But I'd be pretty sure they were the same person.

Is the photo you used on the internet anywhere?

Google reverse image search or tin eye can link it back to your Facebook

The fact she asked for a photo makes me think this is a scam

this puts my mind at rest... ITS A SCAM.

I questioned her profile on the other thread...
https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=173661

My number is linked to messenger, and once we had sorted details she knew my wife.

I got all the same texts as you got.
MY NAME!!! WTF
OMG, mega awkward
Don't know what to do
Didn't even want to do this, but last hope of saving my house.. blar blar.

I just told her - if she wants to tell my wife who she "knows" then so be it - I'll deal with the fall out.

That said, she looked like someone I just made redundant, so I was convinced I had picked the wrong punt !!

Try searching their phone number on Facebook! its really surprising how many prossies use their personal number and allow it to be used by facebook for ANYONE to find.

Even works with email addresses so if you have a facebook account BEWARE!!!!!
