I know this is not a service provider forum here, but the more people will be aware of ongoing scams, the better, you can always inform others (and we have a few service provider here too).
I was visiting a regular a few days ago, and as I arrived and was getting prepared, she got a call, and seemed quite distressed. From what I overheard and could gather, I had to immediately step in and explain what was happening to her...
These fucking idiot scammers from Sector 5 (well known mass concentration of phone scammers near Calcutta) have found a new idea: they are calling escorts pretending to be police and that they have "proof" that the escort answering is selling services to underage public. As you guessed, they are willing to stop legal charges for some cash/Amazon card/bitcoins.
That might seem so big that you think nobody would fall for that, but when you don't necessarily master the language perfectly and don't know very well how policing is done in the UK, you might fall for it.
So I explained to her that the police or other authorities for that matter would never "call" for anything. If they have reasons to have anything to ask, they would just knock at her down and/or arrest her, not phone pretending to be anyone from HRMC or the Yard or whatever else.
So spread the news if you can. Thankfully I could stop the spam for her. First call I picked up the phone and told the guy that I know this is a scam and hung up. Then a few seconds later, she got another call from another Indian number (they weren't even clever enough to use a phone redirection) with a guy trying his best voice for impersonating John Middleton (yeahh... suuure...) from HRMC and that he was about to warn me of..... I didn't let him continue and told him that he was a stupid idiot from sector 5 and that she is now informed of the scam and would never send them money in any form. That was the end of it.
