If and when I decide to return to punting it will be when I consider the risk to myself and others to be low enough regardless of the law at the time. Pretty much like I would have no qualms about doing 80 / 90 miles an hour on an empty motorway if safe to do so. I would not feel the need to seek the approval of others if I stated my intentions on here.
That is your problem right there, you can't accept that you are trying to justify an illegal act therefore as it is an illegal act you are in the wrong from the start. There is no justification in breaking the law, no matter how wrong you believe it to be.
The more you go on about it on here the stronger the opposition gets. Members are allowed to express their disapproval of bareback why should they not be allowed to express their disapproval of something illegal.
The sooner you stop trying to defend your position the sooner others will stop condemning you.
Except if you want to exceed the speed limit on a motorway? Your logic fails you right there.
I don't believe you're a radical in your mindset, Davie. I think you're just observing this debate and giving your honest thoughts. But the problem is, you're only looking at it from one side of the equation. You seem to think that I'm the only one who's pouring fuel on the fire, but that isn't the case. I'd given up on trying to have a civil debate with LLP the other day, yet he was the one who responded to me first yesterday. So, if you look at it from that point of view, "the more he goes on about it, the stronger the opposition (me) gets". It takes two to have an argument, Davie. The real problem is that myself and LLP are both very stubborn. It's the irresistible force paradox playing out for real.
Ultimatley, I don't understand why you don't ask us both to quit instead of just asking me to back down. Because as I've said before, it takes two to have an argument. But seen as LLP is unable to have a proper debate without resorting to slurs against my character, I will not be responding to him again, so that should solve the problem.
On a broader note, and to actually answer the question posed at the start of this thread...yes. I think we are back now. Right or wrong, correct or incorrect, it doesn't matter. My observations of the punting world tells me that for quite a lot of guys and gals, it is business as usual and I'm fine with that. I personally don't think it's morally correct to go around punting left right and centre whilst continuing your life as normal (and that's why I'm self-isolating), but I'm not going to call anyone out for it. At the end of the day, it's up to the individual to decide.
