Author Topic: iPhone texts not getting through to non-iPhone/iOS phones?  (Read 838 times)

Offline JayEZ2K

I sent out nearly ten messages today, with only a couple replies. It could be that it's Sunday, but I also noticed that most of my messages had a green background. After a search, I found this: "You may have noticed that some of your iPhone text messages have either a blue or green background. A green background means that the message is being exchanged with a non-iOS device (Android, Windows phone and so on) and was delivered via SMS through your mobile provider." External Link/Members Only  And I remembered right away the message on AW, which states: "calls from withheld numbers and SMS messages will be ignored".

So I'm worried that I'm missing punt opportunities because my messages are not being received. Which would also make my phone about half worthless for its intended purpose, and would also be wasting my paid-for texts. Does anyone know if iPhone messages like these are not being received?

I had also noticed a few weeks ago that there was a disconnect until I turned on the mobile data. Maybe they were sending a message via SMS?

If the receiver of the message is not on IOS Device, it will convey the message as a Text (Green). The receiver of your message can still have a IOS Device but if they are not on a Wi-Fi network or have Data allowance on their phone it would be received as a Text.

If the receiver has a IOS Device and has Data allowance or is on Wi-Fi the message would be received as a iMessage (Blue) and if your settings are configured correctly, you will see a Delivered status at the bottom of the iMessage and when it is read you will see the status change accordingly to Read at the specific time.

Nothing wrong with your phone, if it mentions SMS messages will be ignored, l think that is what is happening  :D or could be Pro$$ie with bad communications  :wackogirl:

The adultwork message saying that SMS will be ignored will also count for iMessaging
She does not want text messages

iMessages for all intents and purposes are text messages just like SMS
The difference being that iMessage if possible sends by data and communicates back and forth about the status of a message - whether it’s been sent, delivered, read (appeared on screen), and you can see if the person on the other side is typing (actually that they are touching the screen)
They are sent by data if you have a connection and by SMS with less features if you don’t

If you are using a plan and relying on your SMS allowance then you are limited to those you can text, the alternate is to phone

Don't all Apple messages all go through some central gizmo thing in the states? Not surprised some then get lost if they have to do that and then transfer onto the conventional mobile SMS network to reach proper phones.

Life's too short for all that technical shit, it's easier to use a simple phone for punting, 14 quid from B&M Bargains  :dash:

The technical stuff is over my head too. But I was using a simple punting phone and got tired of how slow it is to text, plus it didn't have a data lock, etc. I'm using an iPhone now which has loads of useful features, like voice to text, easy predictive textings which adapts to know what I will type, and lockable so nobody will see my contacts or messages.

It's just this sms thing that was worrying me that my texts might not be going through. I might have to bring my cheap punting phone for a side-by-side comparision, and see if the cheap phone gets responses that the iPhone doesn't.

If you are talking about just last Sunday then I can't comment because I didn't send any texts.

However, if you are commenting about anytime then I've had 3 different iPhones over the last 6-7 years and have never had any issues whether sending to iPhone or Androids.

Do you also get variable green/blue text bubbles? If so that gives me hope that there's no problem.

I only text AW and VivaStreet ads. I'll try two phones different phones tomorrow to see if the phone is the problem.

Yes, blue for iPhones and green for androids.

Online s0whatsnew?

For what its worth, a very high proportion of ee girls use a cheapo piggy-back service like giff-gaff, lebara, lyca, etc.   I've found these to be utterly unreliable for immediate txt/voice delivery.   Whenever i've pointed this out to the girl (if i've luckily connected in the end) the reaction has usually been a shrug of the shoulders.   Presumably its then the punter that gets blamed for bad comms.

I also use an iPhone as a punting phone and like IMessage because you can see if a message has been read, but I have also noticed that not all iMessages (blue) are received as text messages (green) when I don’t have a WiFi connection.
I don’t pay for data on this punting phone. Too tight which is why I like IMessage because it don’t cost me anything other than the risk of missing out on a punt!
I have had instances where I have texted the WG to say I have arrived, only to get no response/room number. Not a problem since I then just use the phone as a phone and talk to her.
When I get home (or any WiFi connection) I then get the missed IMessages. I guess the WG needs to change their settings as per mine, unless they are even tighter and don’t have any credits even for texts.
However Today I noticed I was getting some messages as texts but not all (ie got iMessages again when I got home with some extra ones not previously received)

I've also had hit and miss with iPhone messages. Sometimes people who I've iMessaged (via internet) in the past don't seem to receive ordinary texts if either I or they don't currently have mobile data or wifi enabled.

Then eventually when I or they switch on data or wifi, the messages appear as iMessages. Bit of a pain.
