Why would you want to book a hotel under false name when you can just use pre paid card? So it doesn't show on your account :)

It's actually got more difficult with most online bookings needing a credit card.

You could try cash and a dodgy name like Arthur Daley if you are local enough or they will take a booking without guarantee over the 'phone.

Offline Bikerboy

Or you could get one of those prepaid cards bearing visa/card and say you are Arthur Daley..

thanks guys. it's not the fact that i didn't want it to show up on the phone but rather i didn't want the other person I'm meeting to know who i am. if perhaps they asked at the desk etc

You can use any name to book a room, celebs do it all the time when travelling incognito, but you need to use a credit card to pay for the room.

Why would she ask at reception? go meet her in reception, escort her up not forgetting to cop a feel in the lift just to make sure she isn't hiding a pair of bollocks

lol sound advice. it's actually not for an escort that i seek this advice. it's for a married online friend who I'd prefer not to get too close to if u know what i mean

Some hotels have a policy preventing this - certainly in larger chains the reservation must be made under the name on the card used to secure the room.  Celebs get around this by having their assistant / manager / agent / friend handle the reservation as they only need one name and ID. If they ask for the names of other guests you can put Mickey Mouse at that point as no ID is required.

seems a tricky enough prospect so!

Just buy Prime card from newsagent, activate it in false name / address on their website, then book a hotel like Travelodge using those fake details and the card.

Worked plenty of times in the past for me. Though I haven't used them recent years. But I understand they changed it so maximum money you can load the card with is £200 and you cannot put more money afterwards (unless you verify your identity, which is not possible if you've given fake details of course).

External Link/Members Only is another.

I've never had them ask for that with Travelodge, Premier Inn, Novotel, Holiday Inn.
Unsure about other chains.

Prepaid card like others have said is the best way to go. I have frequented many hotels of many different types and cannot once remember being asked for ID. My advice for booking a hotel for punting is to usually book a busy hotel with a open lobby. Very rare for anyone to get stopped and for a WG to ask at reception.

Use expedia or any app. You choose who the guests name is.

Doesnt matter what card it is as most likely the hotel wont get the details but only payment from expedia

If you say you dont have ID 9/10 you just need a valid UK address. Some chains chance it (mailing lists probably) but ive never been declined.

Usually they get fussy if you require a second key card

:)not just one  :D

Interesting thread - I'm interested in this for a mixed business/pleasure trip to brotheland aka Germany. I noticed that the Prime Card says:

You just need to register your card so that you can fill in an address as some websites request this in order to process a payment. We will not use this address to send you any information

Almost inviting you to make one up. I feel a tad uncomfortable with that but its true most website want a cardholder address. What did you do to resolve this? I see also they want a mobile number so punterphone for this to remain anon.

Use a random fake address, just like the fake name.

When purchasing something later (e.g. PayPal), it has to be that exact same fake address / postcode otherwise transaction will be rejected.

For a real address that no-one lives at, use 23/24 Leinster Gardens, Paddington, London W2

If you only require a hotel during the day, you can use - External Link/Members Only - to book.

They only act as a third party to the booking taking no credit card details. It is up to you to settle with the hotel on the day which you can do in cash.

Wow, that is really interesting, I wonder if there are any more around London?

The other possibility is to request a second credit card in the name of a staff member. May work better with a company credit card.

I have actually found the budget hotels more picky when it comes to addresses: ibis or similar insisted on photocopying my driving licence, presumably in case I vandalised the room.

The higher end chains don't seem to require this.

Offline jamesian

Its true about Ibis and driving licences. I was in reception at an Ibis the other day and a striking lady came in asking for the room and wanting to pay cash. They photocopied her drivers licence then accepted the cash
