Having time on my hands yesterday, I decided to see what countries other than the UK have a significant presence on Adultwork.(As one does.)
I was surprised b ythe result.
The UK has a total of 124,550 entries. This figure includes everybody: men, women and couples, with women as by far and away the largest group. So far, so unsurprising.
In third place is the USA, with 4,712 entries.
However, by far and away the largest number after the UK is Romania, with 13,551 entries.
Why? Are there really thousands of women in Romania with private galleries and webcams? (Because none that I looked at were suggesting a meeting.) What is more, do they all go to the same photoshopper? They use the same sort of heavily-retouched shots that they do in the UK.
And the profiles are all in excellent English. So there are an awful lot of women who speak fluent English in Bucharest. As one would expect.
In fairness, if you scroll down the pages you find that there are a very large number of old profiles where there has been no log-in for six or seven years. So the active number is much smaller.
I am left to draw the conclusion that there is a scam in Romania, aimed at the English-speaking market (and particularly the UK), whereby a series of photos, possibly filched from porn sites and the like, are posted by a small number of good English speakers, and regularly refreshed, with the older profiles left to die of natural causes.
Is there really a market for this stuff? Has anybody out there tried having a webcam session with a woman based in Bucharest, (whose spoken English will probably bear no resemblence to her writing), or accessed her private gallery?
The population of Romania is just under one third that of the UK: on the basis of the Adultwork statisitc, one might think that a very high percentage of Romanian women are sex workers.
However, I think the reality is that this is a scam. But as I say, do people in the UK really bother with Romanian-based webcammers of doubtful integrity when they can waste their money equally easily on British cammers?
Any views on my interpretation of the statistics? Is my cynical mind right in thinking this just reflects the scamming culture that seems to be prevalent among all to many Romanains?

p.s I was not sure whether to post this under Romania or the UK, as it seems to affect both countries. I have posted it under "UK" on the basis it must be directed at the UK.
