Legit videos no problem with sound or vision.
All started out of blue last week.Running windows 10 for months on a regularly used laptop.

Have you tried different players to see if it is a particular player?
Are you watching porn and normal videos using the same video player? If not you might have accidently muted the player your using for porn.
The other more likely cause is that for some reason you haven't got the correct CODEC for playing the sound track of the videos - maybe its been removed through an update that has been applied.

It will be the codec... doubt its anything else...

Running windows 10

there's your problem, i'd bet my next punt on it, fucking piece of shit doesn't need your permission to change settings, it just cracks on and does whatever it's M$ master tells it to.
In the past, M$ forced user account control on us (that fucking annoying popup whenever you tried to install or run something) well now you need one of those but to stop windows doing shit behind your back, it's far too "automated" now

So keep a few different players on your laptop. I use VLC (most reliable), QuickTime (for certain features) and a couple of others I can’t remember. As for flash, some browsers will disable it by default as a saftety measure. Just go into settings, enable it and make sure it’s up to date.  :hi:

oddly enough i can't find any references out there to a recent update meddling with this, i'd still be looking at all the settings related to family friendly etc, it would not be the first time it's gone tits-up

There's a setting in internet explorer to play all sound.
This might be unchecked.

If your using IE or Edge try chrome or mozilla.

I especially like mozilla for private browsing.

I gave up on Internet Explorer years ago. Firefox Mozilla is the best equipped browser IMO but can sometimes be too clever for its own good. Chrome is useful for translation. Opera is nice and compact. Safari still drives me nuts.

It seems sensible in many ways to have more than one. You can have one with all the bells and whistles, ad-blockers and so on, but then something simple like Opera if a site says it will only work if you allow their adverts to pay for their storage. Just easier than changing settings. Or one that remembers which pages you're looking at (for like comparing a trillion different coffee-makers) and one that just opens every time with the pages you most use (or opens a tab with the same pages you mostly use.

God look with your vids. Why not post the format that is giving you problems?

Thanks to all for the time and thought given to your comments.
I think flash player may be the issue as on the odd site which asks you
to click to use adobe flashplay the video then works!
Incidentally the sound is fine just no picture;lots of intersting noises but nil to see :dash:
Yes I have Windows 10 which upgrades without giving a choice. :diablo:
No-one else has access.
Cheers and thanks again

that used to always be associated with codecs, and the sort of standard workaround was to install VLC player, as that can play pretty much every format out there, that said, it will also (on its default install settings) associate itself with all of those file types during install, and a shit load of your icons for files will switch to traffic cones

but as we're talking browser based, then yeah it could be flash related, or perhaps silverlight (if that's still used)
