Whilst I agree with all the sentiments expressed about so-called newbies/virgins I do think there maybe, just maybe, genuine newbies and virgins out there desperately in need of advice. I do feel, like most of you, that the newbie threads were started by trolls, that's why I refrained posting on most of them.
I also feel that a genuine newbie can read and search the forum to get as much info as they need but in this age of social media people, specially young people, tend to spill all to the whole wide world like a mental diarrhoea; even if they have all the info available in front of them.
I do wonder if, in the ethos of UKP, having a one big informative thread for newbies/virgins might just be helpful. Even if it helps one genuine out of hundreds of trolls I think UKP would have done a great service.
Yes, I also started punting in my late teens about 30 years ago when there was no internet, no forums, no pictures, etc. it was horrible and I did have very many shitty punts that I thought that was the norm at the time. But now that we have the resources to inform new punters why not use them? Granted we will never be free of trolls, that's just the nature of forums and the internet but I have met some young men though work and voluntary work that are just so desperately shy I do feel sorry for them.
If Adam and NIK agree I'm perfectly happy to volunteer to write a big info thread for newbies, so we can all point them to it and hopefully they will learn something useful from that, and if they don't then ban the fuckers.
