Poppers due to 'well meaning' legal changes now use a different type of nitrate. This new one can fuck up your vision, maybe it only takes one time or longer. It might not go away. Forever. Be careful. Will post more detail when got time.

You can still buy the "old style poppers" but not in this country, you can buy them online from this company -------

Tried it once in a club in Blackpool. Thought my head was going to explode plus had tinnitus when I left because the music was so loud. Took 4 fucking days to settle. Thought I'd be stuck with a constant ringing in my ears.

You don't "take" poppers.

It is liquid in a small bottle.

You inhale it ------------------ in Dom sessions sometimes through a gas mask.

Price roughly £5 - £8 a bottle.

It is not illegal to be in possession of poppers, they are sold as "room odorisers"

And they are highly flammable.

Remind me, what are they actually good for?

And they are highly flammable.

Remind me, what are they actually good for?

Causes involuntary relaxation of the muscles, especially around your sphincter.

I've tried it (Amyl Nitrate) once by inhaling it through a cigarette. It gave me one hell of a head rush before turning my legs to total jelly.  :D

Amyl Nitrate is now banned in the UK, the bottles you buy in sex shops (Rush, English etc) are either butyl nitrate or isobutyl nitrite ----------------- genuine Amyl has to be imported.    :hi:

Used to use them quite regularly in clubbing days with MDMA, boy can that combination give you a massive head rush.

Not used them in years and unlikely too now but was unawAre of the change in law/formula.

Thought amyl nitrate was fairly harmless apart from when coming into direct contact with skin as had bottles leak in trouser pocket when hammered which burns

Well it was going on 15-20 years ago when I tried it. How times change.

That's what I was going to say about this. Nitrates when mixed with Viagra (and tablets in the same family) can cause your heart to stop.

Same goes with beta blockers (Propranolol, Atenolol). Nitates and Beta Blockers can cause your heart to stop too.

I would say avoid poppers like the plague. You are seriously dicing with your own health as it reacts with too many things and can be deadly when it does.

So that means real poppers, fake poppers, all of them are types of nitrates so will cause this.

homas' NHS Foundation Trust in the third paragraph)

A club drug and aphrodisiac since the 1970s, inhaled “poppers” are increasingly linked to eye damage - possibly due to a new formulation - according to a short report from the UK.

The case study describes a 30-year-old white male who developed vision loss in both eyes after inhaling poppers. The researchers noticed subtle changes in the form of yellow spots on the macula deep inside the man’s eye, but they say it’s still unclear just how the drug may be destroying vision.

“Over the past 18 months or so I have come across almost 10 patients with poppers maculopathy, whilst several years ago I had not even heard of the condition, same with a lot of my colleagues,” said Dr. Anna Gruener, a physician at Guy’s and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London.

“I felt it was important to raise the issue and increase awareness,” she told Reuters Health.

The liquid drug, which becomes gas at room temperature, is sold in small vials and inhaled for a “rush” of euphoria. Among other effects, the drug dilates blood vessels and relaxes muscles, for about five minutes.

“People came up with the name ‘poppers’ as the lids or caps of the glass vials or tubes that contained the liquid had to be ‘popped off’ before the contents could be inhaled,” Gruener said.

She added that poppers in one form or another have been around for ages and were already widely used in the gay community in the 1970s. “People seemed to regard poppers as relatively safe, and visual loss from inhalation of poppers was unheard of,” she said.

Then in 2010 and 2011, some French ophthalmologists described multiple patients who had suffered from central visual loss following inhalation of poppers, and in 2012, the first UK case series was published.

Gruener thinks this sudden emergence of poppers maculopathy in Europe was most likely linked to a change in the type of nitrite chemicals used in poppers. Before a 2007 European Union law banned it, isobutyl nitrate was the most commonly used fluid in poppers. Now they are most often made with isopropyl nitrate.

It is possible, she said, this different chemical, for whatever reason, was more toxic to the retina than the one previously used.

The easy availability and widespread use of the drug is cause for concern, given the effects it can have on the eyes, Gruener’s team writes in The Lancet.

Not everyone reacts to poppers in the same way and while one person may use poppers repeatedly without any side effects, others may lose their vision after just one use, Gruener pointed out.

She added that some patients might see improvement in their vision after they stop using poppers while others can suffer irreversible vision loss.

There isn’t a lot of research into poppers for several reasons, she said. Many health care professionals still haven't heard of poppers or poppers maculopathy, and despite the increase in cases, the condition is relatively rare, plus it is a self-inflicted condition caused by recreational drug use and nothing else.

“I would like people to realize that poppers can potentially be very damaging, that there is no cure for poppers maculopathy and that prevention - avoidance of poppers - is therefore key,” she said.

Not a Lawyer but I'd imagine that if the substance is illegal in the UK it'd be against the law to import them. Also,    External Link/Members Only  has some poor reviews:-

FYI, I used Poppers in the past but gave them up after the change in formula resulted in a thick head and sore throat afterwards.

It is a chemical very very very similar to the Glycerin tri nitrate  sprays prescribed for the relief of angina.

Nitrates and Nitrites have an effect on the body dilating bloody vessels. Hence the pounding headaches u can get, also being the reason they are very dangerous to use as well as viagra.
Can be fatal if swallowed.
Given the fact that Glycerin tri nitrate, is anot her name used by chemists for Nitroglycerin, I'd say it is probably more explosive than flammable lol
Responds to physical shock much more than an open flame  so don't shake the bottle tooooo hard lmao

Nitromin, medical glyceryl trinitrate (under tongue spray) contains only 0.8% active material in alcohols and similar diluents so there is no "explosion" issue.  However, the medicine leaflet warns specifically NOT to be used with any of the erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra, Cialis etc etc or the combined effect can be fatal

I guess that used on its own the Nitromin spray will have an effect VERY much like that of poppers - certainly it delivers all the same sorts of arterial relaxation/ increased blood flow effects.  Although I am not a Viagra etc user I will NOT be trying out Nitromin either, even though I have quite a lot of the sprays "inherited" from relatives who passed away from natural old age.  I guess I will hand them in to a pharmacy one day

poppers are bad news when someone kicks them over on your carpeted floor. i'm sure every drug have their health impacts if done too frequently.

I'm a regular user of poppers and big fan of them. Since the law change I have not noticed any affect on my eyes, and I probably use them every single day.  I always take them to punts with me, having Always checked with the WG that its fine to do so.  the feeling of OWO whilst the poppers kicks in, is possible the best feeling in the world.

I honestly have no issue with them and find most WG's don't either, but of harmless fun I find.

as far as I know the traditional poppers were just as risky for eyesight/ glaucoma

When I was 15 a random guy stopped me at a music festival to give me poppers.

Not realising what it was, I took a swig and drank it! (warning, do not do this, it is poisonous)

after then taking a sniff, I hopped away like the young full-of-energy kid I was

I realise in hindsight that that guy was probably a paedophile

I also love my poppers. As mentioned earlier in this thread, you must remember never to use poppers with any form of ED drug, viagra etc.

Heh heh, this takes me back a few years.

Used to be in little glass phials in the early 70s' a bit like stink bombs. Wrap in a handkerchief, snap and inhale. Never got into it. Hash n weed were my choice back then, same as they are now.

Also reminded me of this cartoon.

Most youngsters (that I come in contact with) have never heard of the FFB.
