I recently reminisced about teenage years in the 90s and the fad for having spinner yoyos. It was massive around here  and you were no one if you couldn't at least walk the dog. I recall mine being a coke branded, you can buy them at a well known auction site for about 80 quid

It's made how expensive stuff from that era have got. I don't collect toys, well not action figures anyway, but some of the Lego goes for obscene money, and the actual cars have been mentioned you could have bought the Ford Escorts XR series for a few hundred 15 years ago now you're looking at 5K+.

The second hand car market is crazy. I'm not sure if it's temporary or permanent.

Reminiscent of the antique market when prior to the 1970's "old stuff" had no value and people were just chucking them away. Then, the Antiques Roadshow became popular and everyone believed they had a priceless masterpiece in the attic.

* soft drinks that weren't that zero and sugar free shit. Also affordable. When did a can of coke become the same price as beer? Panda Pops when I was younger - green cola.

* Bath towels that weren't made in India or China. I've got a UK Christy bath towel and an Indian one. The Indian one is half the thickness.

* Tams coffee mugs - often a little bit ugly, they did everything from Bart Simpson to Mr Blobby, Kit Kat, football clubs - just a really solid mug company seen in every workplace.

* High streets with actual shops. Most are either boarded up or unappealing shit - vape cafés, betting shops, worst of all shops which are money laundering scams which are never open. No issue with coffee shops.

* When the Austin Metro was the student's first car. Contrary to popular belief they rarely had Novas. They are shit, but when did they get so fancy Fiat 500 as a first car? Don't know if I miss boy racers. When did that culture die?

* going into a newsagents and seeing literally 20 different magazines for one type - car mags, video games, music. I think there's only about 5 music mags going now. I remember there was about 20 for the music I liked about 20 years ago and all had a CD.

* Not sure about this one, but whose seen the film RHINO. Do you still get that accent or is everyone Estuary or Street?
External Link/Members Only

* Before my time, but I saw the film the boy who turned yellow and the tube had wooden window frames and looked like the Orient Express compared to the glorified bus service it is today.

* Comedians who told jokes, with some exceptions (most are over the age of 40).

* When people weren't so literal / autistic. I don't mean autistic to mock people who are, but that's the best way I can put it. When people interpret irony as being a fact.

* When films had real men in them. You can contrast the Brosnan era of James Bond to Daniel Craig. Which one looks and acts like he fucks a lot of women? I'm not the most masculine guy in the world, but growing up I watched Bronson, Arnie, Stallone, Van Damme, De Niro, Pacino etc. Fuck knows how bad I would be if I watched some feminist male with pink hair on tik tok talking about being yourself.

* When you could actually buy what you need in shops. I have to order razor blades off eBay, they rarely have shoes in my size, books I want I can rarely find.

True that my aunt had a 70s/80s Formica table which folded in two places. Couldn't give it away in the 90s. We sold it for £70 about 5 years ago.

Were the good old days really the good old days or is it a case of rose tinted specs? anyway, I miss the late 80's/90's and everything that came with it.  Big hair styles, Rumbelows, Woolworths, Our price records; Virgin Cola.  An easier way to live.  I had a Ford Capri 1.6L, 'S' reg.  I loved that car.

Course it's rose tinted. We think of it as being better because we had less worries and ignore the complexities. All the things you mentioned I liked.

The rose-tinted spectacles mustn't get in the way. I wasn't implying things were better in the old days. In a lot of cases, they weren't. Cars might've been more stylish, but a 1970s trip up the length of the M1 would've seen a couple of dozen broken down on the hard shoulder. Nowadays, you probably won't see one.

As P J O'Rourke said, if people think that somehow everything was better in the past, I have one word to say: dentistry.

Wish I could go back, life was so much more simple and care free.

Your Capri is probably one of the most desired by collectors today, the MK3 body, but still designated Capri 11, as in MK2 facelift. Only happened for a short period, until Ford realised most were using MK3 to describe and dropped Capri 11.

Hard shoulders are rapidly disappearing from motorways now with the so called " smart motorways " so it's bloody dangerous if you break down now  :scare: whoever thought of that idea needs shooting.

You would think with the publicity about hard shoulders being dangerous and to leave the car, not having them would make no sense at all.

I think that no new ones can be built until there is a review on safety, but as most are already started or done, not sure much will change.

Yes, Govt. belatedly listened to Police advice about these "smart motorways" but it was too late.

My experience of Wetherspoons loo's is you need to set of early, traverse numerous staircases, cross time zones, and return like you've been lost in narnia for several years.....

You can still buy those bags of crisps with the little blue bag of salt inside them.(Walkers do them) The trouble is after you sprinkled the salt inside on your crisps you would have one crisp with a load of salt on it and no salt on the others  :dash:
