you seem to be a bit lacking in the contributions department and you've been here 4 1/2 years.

Unfortunately I'm not doing any activity to report at the moment(for over an extended period of time now) and I'm usually not that active that I want to report every encounter.

Is it possibele that this system could be used on a local basis like a missing or abducted child?, i belive they hav e a system like that in America that has been very helpfull in getting child back as the more people who knoiw about that sort of event the sooner the better!..

Is there a police alerts system in your area? Cumbria police operate an email not of system, I receive information about missing people and other public announcements e.g. water safety, road safety etc.

Nobody expects you to review every encounter but you were very active on the forum during 2019 and 2020 and you didn't post any reviews during that time?   :unknown:

BTW had you just accepted the thread being merged you would not have drawn attention to yourself and your lack of contributions.

Sorry I don't post reviews enough(It's a very long extended time with one outing I did review), but I'd like to feel I can make posts outwith of this and not have to stay under the radar :)

Had you left it at this -
Should we be discussing punting phones in the off topic section then?

Valid warning in my opinion posted in the right place.
Nobody would have taken any notice of you, but you then had to post this ↓ which did draw attention to you.
Are we supposed to scan all the non-regionalised boards then run a search before we post something? I can understand if it's a couple threads down the board, but I never read the off-topic board for example as it's not punting related.
To answer that, yes you are expected to check if there is a thread running already.

The welcome message we have for new members includes this - "Don't jump in and ask for information without using the search bar at the top of the page; the most common questions have already been asked;"

All this is not even mentioning the rules.

1 Site ethos/mission
This Forum puts the interests of Punters first through the sharing of Reviews. The Forum does not endorse or promote any service provider or any other site. This site is totally independent. No favouritism, no special treatment, no vested interests and no pandering to service providers. Members are expected to post Reviews, although there is no formal quota (see rule 27). Pretty sure that it is possible

Seems the police have issued a warning to motorists, not to touch there phones, while driving, and the warning alert goes of, so just leave your phone alone

Would you object if the alert saved you from a serious threat?
Or if it found a vulnerable person, before they were harmed?

I would still object. Anyone who thinks government have our best interest at heart need their head examined.

Completely agree.  Have the last 3 years not taught people anything about governments.   They don’t care about you, they don’t have your interests at heart.  They care about themselves, protecting what they have, increasing their level of control and most importantly  they care about MONEY

Ronald Reagan once said “The nine most scary words in the English language are I’m from the government and I’m here to help”.

I’m just waiting for my service provider to tell me I’ve been charged £5 for the test messages, sounds about right.

Make sure those punting phones are turned off or nowhere near a loved one on Sunday 23rd April when the government is to test its new emergency alert system for the UK.

All smartphone even set to silent will emit a loud siren like sound for 10 secs with a Home Screen notification.

The notifications can be disabled on certain phones I do believe.

The could cause a few awkward questions if a hidden phone goes off, think this only applies to smart phone so the old Nokia 3310 should be ok!!

Not sure if this has been mentioned in a pervious post, I did have a quick look and couldn't see it!

Yes. The April test will see all phone masts broadcast the alert but in a real situation only the mast(s) in the relevant area will broadcast the alert.

Offline notcalledchris

The Government is testing an emergcy system on 23 April whereby an alert will be sent to all phones which will cauae them to make a noise.  This will happen even if the phone is on silent.  Punters with hidden punting phones would be advised to disable these alerts if they dont want the location if their punting phone to be revealed

It can't make a noise if the phone is turned off as I suspect most punting phones are most of the time.

I wonder how many SPs and SSs are going to have the alert go off in a booking and how many ambulances will be needed to deal with the heart attack victims.

It'd be funny if the warning sat there waiting to be delviered as soon as your punting phone was switched on the following pay day.

Well it's no use having it if you don't regularly test it to make sure it's all working.

This is also to increase awareness by the public.

My ignorance may need to be excused here, but how do we know what the the alarm is warning us of when it sounds? Is it accompanied by a text ? I don't want to run to the high ground to avoid a flood when it's actually a storm coming!!

It's been built into the Mobile phone network from the beginning, every few years they do a partial test. IIRC last was in the SE in 2020.
If you've ever been to the US, they love using theirs to inform you of trivial police alerts.

Mine too, why on earth do we need 10 separate threads about this, can anyone explain???   :unknown:  the first thread was started on March 14th and, including all the merges, is 2 pages long.

It isn't even an issue, just turn it off on your phone and you won't get it.

BTW if you read about it this is just testing the system to see if it works and will be sent out from all over the country, if ad when it's rolled out properly the warning will be localised to the areas concerned.

there will be aome kind of text alaet also.  As others have said you will be fine if the phone is switched off.  But you m8ght have your phone switched on because you are exoecting a message from a wg.  Belt and braces would be to disable there alerts as well as having phone switched off

I can't believe so many people know so little about this test yet are posting about it.   :unknown:

Unless you disable alerts in settings on your phone this is what you will get.

The alert will say:

This is a test of Emergency Alerts, a new UK government service that will warn you if there’s a life-threatening emergency nearby.

In an actual emergency, follow the instructions in the alert to keep yourself and others safe.

Visit gov.uk/alerts for more information.

This is a test. You do not need to take any action.

I'm a fan of airplane mode, which I presume will more or less do the same thing.

I have noticed members tend to go to the part of the forum relevant to their interests, almost as if they book make their region and stay there.

I'm not sure if airplane mode would stop it but it can be turned off in settings.

Yes I agree a lot of members mainly look at the area local to them but then something like this comes up and instead of having a look to see if there's a thread already running immediately start one.   :unknown:

My post was a  reply to yours which questioned if airplane mode would be applicable for this test, and quoted content from a previously posted reply.

Hopefully as you say its helpful to Strawberry, and in the spirit of the forum, many others.
