What details are required to sign it? I didnt explore the link thoroughly as i didnt want to do anything "by accident" seeing as smart phones seem to think they know what you want to do better than you do these days.

I imagine if real name/details required that will put people off signing. If they dont require real details then its a pretty pointless petition as i could just call myself michael mouse, or donald trump.

Offline bbois77

A name, email address and postcode, D Trump has already signed :hi:

They want name and email address. I signed using my secret email address. This necessitated okaying my vote by clicking on link in email sent to that address.

Count currently ca. 9000. If it reaches 10,000 it will be considered.

From what I gather this is only to decriminalise street-walking and the concept of a brothel. How would it impact legal independent escorts? Has anyone asked or considered this?  In principle I'd be more than happy to sign it, but probably not if it were to negatively affect independent girls who provide a quality service which is legal in the eyes of the law.

Did you use your real name? What is to stop someone signing multiple times using a different name each time? Although im sympathetic to the cause im not convinced online petitions are worth the paper they arent written on.

Currently less than 8,000. If it was previously higher some signatures have been removed.

At 10,000 signatures the government gives a written response.

At 100,000 signatures the petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.

Offline Mi-Go

How many signatures this gets is utterly irrelevant.  No way will this government be considering decrimininaling prostitution.

What they may well do at some point is decriminalise the offences around providers and move regulation onto customers, including the aspects that are not currently criminal offences.

Sex is already decriminalised in the UK, it's just not legal (something can't be legal and still be criminal, but something can be decriminalised and not legal).

No real point to sign it. As legalisation will only allow multiple SPs to work in one site without issue. Decriminalisation is the status quo.

And then they ignore it.
These petitions are a total waste of time.
Fucking politicians ignore their constituents and do what they want - as we have seen!
Has a single one of these petitions ever made a difference?

Prostitution, i.e. doing sex for money, is not illegal in UK. It's the associated stuff such as keeping a brothel or streetwalking etc. that's illegal and most of these things are not covered by the petition.
Seriously, do you think that in its present state parliament is going to allocate time to discuss legalising "prostitution"?

More harm than good could easily be generated by this petition.  We DO NOT have a climate of sexual toleration any longer,  if we ever did.

Actually we don't have much toleration for anything.  Much as you would expect on a tiny overpopulated island with a rubbish climate and no money.

But in the local cess-pit that passes for a town there is a big venue which is a gay sauna.  It's deep in a Muslim enclave but appears to drift by without any trouble.

Funny isn't it.  I get a big building, put in a Sauna and invite Gay men to fill it.  Legal and nobody seems to mind.

If I invited women to fill it it would be illegal and raise a lot of protests.  Long as I live I won't get my head around that.

I signed this with my real name email address and post code. Everyone should. The law is an arse, so many women get done on brothel keeping laws, just because they work together.

Too me it is a human rights issue and no one should be afraid of signing. My wife knows I sign and support sex workers. I have a wad full of letters from my MP dating back 10 years.

As for the climate off decriminalisation, there is tremendous support in some quarters for it. There is though a number of MPs from the self selected APPG group who will not listen or even talk to sex workers.

Instead look to the home office review which came out in favour of decriminalisation and all those prestigious groups who favour decrim. The evidence is there.

There is presently a home office instigated research project reporting this year obout it's findings. Too late to contribute or pursuade your favourite escort to participate

At the moment  buying is legal from you. The way some are looking, selling sex in any way should be decriminilised, while the buying should be criminalised. This is what the APPG are looking to promote in parliament, and also a number of MPs from all sides of the house. You should know what your MP supports, and let them know how you feel.  I do.

The ECP do support the total decriminilisation  of sex work. Brothels, or working together, and street work. Many are selling sex because that is there only option in austerity UK. Should they get criminal records to feed children?

I say to those who want to stop the sale of sex, we must address the issues of drug misuse and the inadequate social provisions in this country.

Fucking hell, what are you a Liberal campaigning  :sarcastic:

As for feeding the children, that's what family allowance is for, if they don't spunk it all on Sky TV, Fags & Booze

Indeed.

Offline elrond

Indeed.

The trouble is this issue is NOT a sleeping dog. We have had NI and Ireland introduce the sex buyer law, with a dramatic increase of attacks on Irish sex workers. The Scottish parliament has tried many times, and it is now the policy of SNP to introduce the Nordic model.

There have been many heroic attempts by sex workers in Scotland to fight this attitude through the youth groups of the SNP and through unions and other organisations which speak OVER sex workers.

Yes, I am a Liberal. I do support one of the few political parties (Greens as well) who have a policy for the full decriminilisation of sex work.

But not all of us are in your scenario so would be mad to use their real name etc in my view. I recall a poster with your nick on a forum now gone, often posted good information about the legalities of punting.

Under the guise of tolerance, inclusivity and diversity (surely conflicting concepts) this country is as intolerant as fuck. You can’t fart without being accused of ‘hate crime’ the most ridiculous law ever.
Liberals are only liberal as long as you agree with them.

Join the club.  Long live orthodoxy and down with all these pestiferous young radicals who simply can`t leave well alone because they think progress means that nobody should ever be allowed to call a spade a spade..  It will soon be a "hate crime" to refer to anybody as either man, woman or transgender as such on pain of fine and imprisonment, and we shall all simply be "persons"

I signed it some time ago when I saw it on twitter.
Not that it will make a wet farts worth of difference to politicians, most made their minds up years ago.

Offline Squire Haggard

I've now signed it. With over 10,000 signatures they must now give a written response. It should be fun to read as they squirm and wriggle about, stopping short of allowing fully legal brothels.  :)

The interactive map on the petition website reveals that Brighton Pavilion is the most enlightened constituency with a massive 0.09% of the electorate signing.

Possible correlation between being green and wanting decriminalisation ?
