Cuffs are great though, have you tried the straps that go under the bed then come up at the sides so the female in question is more like a starfish?

Done this numerous times with SB's rather than SP's. I use thick rope, which seems to be cotton based so is quite soft.
I do like the initial tying up, as watching the girls face is quite a turn on as they realise they are thoroughly restrained. I normally then go onto orgasm denial which I continue for 30 minute's or so..... Christ that has lead to some damage to my mattress.....

   I’ve been tying ladies up – those who’ll let me – for over 15 years and have used a spreader bar from time to time. I agree that they’re not very useful if the SP is flat on the bed, but they’re great for pulling her legs back and attaching to the headboard. That, coupled with a bit of sensory deprivation, is an enjoyable way to while away an hour or so!

Nah. You need 5 tonne rated rachet straps. Apply a blind fold then arc a couple of jump leads connected to a car battery near her ears. The effect is worth carrying the battery upstairs.

I suspect that you are after fancy tying-up techniques, but I think it worth mentioning the following.

For a beginner, or even when playing with someone for the first time, the lark's foot is absolutely essential. The more the tied person pulls against it, the tighter it will get, so great for getting into the struggle. However, if the tied person relaxes and gently moves their wrist it will steadily come loose and they can slip their hand out, which could be useful in an emergency or if they are not happy. It is also very quick and easy to tie, so moving the fun forward quickly if you are not just there for the knot tying.

Lots of subby guys enjoy the actual tying up and yes Shibari is often used by ther more bondage experienced mistress.
