Not for the punts themselves but more travel or maybe health related, I've just got home (work not punting) but about half a mile from home car developed a fault (not charging) It just got me thinking what I would do if it happened on a punt.
I used to travel quite a bit with work but not so much nowadays, so even if I was to get a family member or friend to come to my rescue they would probably wonder what I'm doing 50 miles from home or whatever.
Do you have breakdown recovery or do you have a punting friend who would help out

Likewise, I can generate a plausible reason for being where I am, also I do a bit of travelling with work and it's short days so I like to arrange a punt on those days at wherever they've sent me.

I always have golf clubs in my car, and Im never too far from a range or a course

Happened to me in this meeting https://www.ukpunting.com/index.php?topic=157573.0

Happened on the way to the punt, and distracted me a bit. Managed to limp the car around the M25, home, with no servo assistance on the brakes. (means the pedal is very solid, poor braking efficiency). Nearly had an accident when I first noticed it (coming of the M40 at Oxford)

Wife knows I punt so I could have called her if I was desperate.

For a fuck or roadside assistance?

Speeding tickets are I would have thought the big worry.

My car broke down outside GFE parlour in Bury last year. Got back in the car after the punt and it wouldn't start, nothing there at all. For anyone who knows the area there's no other reason to be parking there (apart from visiting La Maison round the corner perhaps  :D). Mild panic broke out for a split second before I realised it's no big deal, I'm in the RAC, slightly embarrassing at worst. The RAC guy never mentioned it and if he had I would have happily laughed it off as I'd had time to calm down by then. Lord knows what I would have done if I didn't have breakdown cover, would have been a very embarrassing phone call to family/friend.

Best reason for breakdown assistance ever. Maybe even more valuable than a punting phone.

Not really punting much at the moment, but need to look at breakdown cover, used to have something via a bank account but don't think they do it anymore

You really need to have a plausible excuse for being in the area.... so many things could unexpectedly happen: car trouble, taken ill,  nicked by traffic police/camera, spotted by someone you know.
One of the main things I look for when booking an escort is can I generate a reasonable excuse for visiting her locale? It does limit me to nearby big towns and cities and means I can't really visit anyone in a piddly place miles off the beaten track even if she's a cracker though.

I empathise about the contingency ‘explantation’. Though I’ve never had to use it, “must’ve taken the wrong turning” is easy enough. Then it would be easy to get lost. And enjoy exploring. Have something to eat. Chat to some nice locals who offer to assist. et cetera

^ this, advice to adhere to.

Hadn't really ever given it any thought, until on the way to a punt, 5 mins away and a car hits me in the side, my car a write off, road closed for over an hour.
Fortunately was able to say was on my way to see my parents as it was on the way. But that could have been an interesting one to explain

Agreed, always have a cover story in place to explain why I have been in a certain locality.

Never park on the girl's driveway is my advice. I always try to find a nearby supermarket or public carpark even if it means walking a bit.

Parking on her driveway lol.

What mad cunt would do that.  :wackogirl:

+1 You won't want your vehicle registration to be linked to an escorts residence.

Travel by train works well for me or if I choose to drive I'd be willing to spent some extra cash on parking in a car park even if it's a 30 minute walk from the location of my booking. Did that for my last one.

I guess he doesn't have to hide anything then like a separate phone, etc unlike the rest of us.

As long as you don't park right next to her house/flat, it's cool.

A side road a couple of minutes walk away is fine.

I always have car breakdown as part of my warranty but at my punt that nearly wasn't there wasn't time to call them and for them to come and fix the problem before the punt was due to start.

I was very early as usual in the WGs area, a newbie WG to me so I parked up turned the engine off, put the blower and a cd on and relaxed. When it came to time to drive to the WGs I discovered I had run the car battery down, I thought well I am not far away so will walk it. After a while I also discovered it was further than I had thought so I rang the WG and she wanted to cancel, I said no I will be their as agreed. So I stepped into the road and flagged a car down which was driven by a young guy on his own, I said I urgently needed a lift and said I will give you £20 and handed it to him saying you can have this whatever, he was startled but took the money and asked me to jump in. I got to the WGs on time and  for me it added to the good punt it turned out to be with the WG becoming a good regular for a while. She would of put me down as a time waster if I hadn't made it. I then got a cab back to my car to find the battery had re-charged itself. I will do anything bar hurt someone to get to a punt on time.

Indeed so, and it also helps me that i have a partner who isn't always asking what I am up to, I have various hobbies I am pursuing at any given time, which it isn't smart nowadays to post about on here in my view, too many low lifes and mumsnetters about.

My advice is also if you drive don't mention it to the WG, if she asks just say you got a cab or used public transport, a WG doesn't need to know how I got to the punt.

I never park right outside that place as saying I was visiting the Jewsons 50 miles from home isn't plausible  :D

I visit a nearby Chinese massage place occasionally and either go by bus or, if by car, I park in a supermarket car park and walk for around 15 mins. I travel a lot for my hobby so  I have an excuse to be in the area of any other punt. I would like to try out my nearest Chinese Massage place but it's on a busy A road a few doors from the traffic lights, so traffic is usually slow moving or stopped. Too risky of being seen by someone who knows me.

I'd never given this any thought, but will do now. I have a travelling salesman type job so I'm always all over the country, but the wife knows roughly where my clients are - and that rarely matches up with where my favourite punting ground is.

If I had a crash on the way there, I'd be in right lumber. Food for thought.
