I see the usual myths are being trotted out over there. First the "human trafficking" one, and then the "90% of prostitutes are junkies" one.
Myth #1: After two big police operations failed to find a single woman coerced into the profession despite hundreds of arrests, an investigation by London Metropolitan University found that 6% of migrant sex workers had been subjected to some sort of coercion or trickery, leaving 94% who had not - and that's just looking at foreign migrants, the most vulnerable.
Myth #2: That deliberately misleading statistic was debunked years ago, it was based on a small sample of Mexican streetwalkers in San Francisco in the 1980's IIRC. Yes, some homeless junkies turn to prostitution to pay for their drugs, but that does NOT make all prostitutes junkies! Reversal of cuse and effect, it's like saying that because some people using fire extinguishers get killed in fires, therefore fire extinguishers kill people.
