I always think anti-depressants are some sort of sick joke invented by the medical profession.

You're depressed so here's some pills to make you happy. Except now your dick won't work. Which for most men will make you fucking depressed.

A cunt's trick or what!

decreased sex drive, impotence, or difficulty having an orgasm. Just googled the side effects :-(
Who says you can't have a blue pill ?

Offline pewpewpew

I used to take antidepressants and my libido dropped massively. Never tried to couple it with viagra. When explaining the side effects the doctor said that they all give some side effects and you just have to find the ones you can live with

Why not look at herbal alternatives, which might even be better, and could even improve your stiffy

Iv been taking L-tyrosine for the last month, mostly because of anxiety, but seemingly it also boost sexual health  :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

All drugs legal and otherwise have side effects and part of the doctoring art is to get the required effect with minimal side effects.

For instance Its well  known that the Pill can an does cause problems in women, some might say that its the way it works puts the old girl off the very idea of shagging!.

I have at my age to take blood pressure meds and they do can cause a bit of ED but sometimes but there's more than one available and a careful combination of various types can get the required effect with minimal side effects.

However in the case of anti depressants they do have an effect on sex drive that is unfortunately due to the way they work and as yet there's nothing any better around. Talk to your doctor to see if Viagra would have any worthwhile improvement. It does work by altering the smoothness of the arteries that harden with age etc but it dosen't have as such any effect/improvement in the sex drive as it were.

All the same ask you Doc i know it seems odd that something that's supposed to cure depression has the effect of removing pleasure but its far more important that the depression is treated, that can and does sadly have very bad outcomes if not treated.

Anti depressants were first designed for use in asylums
The effect of loss of sexual performance was desirable so the institution could easier control the patients

Nowadays, pharmacy companies just wanna make profit and the nhs just want to find quick fixes for everything for low cost ....so they give these  out like sweeties to the general public, with no care about the side effects

consensus of opinion, go see the doctor as I first said, and also quoted by others, this is no place to go for medical advise.

Yes, they do and make achieving ejaculation more difficult. It *may* pass with time but there's no guarantees.

Offline dbank95

My experiences taking anti depressants were mostly positive. I initially took them for mental health reasons but I noticed they helped me last way longer. As a one pop guy this was a godsend. It didn’t really give me trouble with erections but I’d say the downside was that it made orgasms less pleasurable.

I believe they are prescribed in light doses for men with premature ejaculation.

Viagra etc help sustain erections
But they dont help achieve orgasm or counter the effects of the anti depressant if u find it hard to climax

If there existed a magic pill to help men orgasm, this bloody forum wouldnt exist!

He did give me viagra when he gave me the pills but i didnt use em then.

I wish I stayed on mine and I still have my meds but  when start taking them things go numb down there but I don't know if that well go away in time if my body well get use too it again. I would much rather have delayed ejaculation and then premature ejaculation because that's worse.
I'm hoping  gingko biloba and Korean ginseng fixes it maybe take 5 htp too. But if I do start prozac again wot do I do ride out the side effects and hope they go away? I don't think I had a problem on them before tho.

In all honesty everyones different. I used to take cipramil and it did the job with my depression however it totally ruined my sex life as it made it so it took me quite a while to cum.

Antidepressants work by damping your brain response to external stimulation whether its pain or pleasure, they are bound to have an effect on your sex life

I've found that exercise helps a lot... on a normal day i have the same problem as you. but on days ive been to the gym im like the fucking enigizer bunny.

I was on antidepressents for 3 years. I've been off them for 5 years now and still seem to have a bit of a problem. It has been getting worse though over the past few months even though I haven't taken them for 5 years. Today I took the blue pill for the first time and it did work.

OP, I've been on Sertraline a few times, and am currently. I always find after a month or so that things return to normal - during that time it's difficult to get it up or finish, but it always improves. Let us know how you get on, hope it improves.

I sincerely believe they are a scam.
Necessary perhaps for the most severe cases but massively over-prescribed and not necessary most of the time. I went to the doctor's about something completely unrelated recently and was astounded when she tried to push antidepressants on me within minutes!
In a sane world, testosterone injections would be prescribed to depressed men rather than SSRIs... but a healthy diet, drinking more water, regular exercise, 8 hours a night sleep, abstaining from alcohol/drugs, meditation and so on would see a vast improvement for many

Offline boogaloo

I'm on Sertraline and a few other things, and yes, it kills my bone. But if you feed that info back to your GP there are alternatives to try, with their own side effects too. Like loose stool, low blood pressure, excessive sweating, poor sleep, etc etc. Lots of medications that affect individuals differently. Its more about choosing a side effect you can live with. Drinking more water and less junk food helps me with it, but that would probably help anyones erectile issues

Anti depressents dont really make you happy. They more just make you moot and much less affected by things. Which also limits the amount of positive feelings too. But then they're supposed to be used as a temporary measure to get your life back on track and able to cope with things before you come off them.. but people end up on them permanently, and a bit emotionally numb and zombie.. like me

You're right - all of the things you mention (although I don't know about testosterone) should be a priority, before medication.

A shame that there are still docs out there that push them like yours, but when they're necessary, they are - often quite literally - a life-saver.

Now someone i know, female, has or rather had very severe headaches. She had tried and been on all the usual meds for this problem but she changed doctor and new doc prescribed her Amitriptyline which is an antidepressant. She was not much pleased as she thought she was being labeled mentally ill! However she did a course of them at a very low does and they cleared her headaches by in her words from a 9 down to a 1 on the pain scale!.

Amitriptyline can also be used for the pain that Arthritis can induce!. Sometimes drugs are very useful for treating conditions off their main use indicator

Remember a little blue pill well that was originally going the be a treatment for high blood pressure till some people trialing it noted it had other odd useful effects:)

This may sound a bit silly but I'm thinking about starting a antidepressant again for better erections, I had better erections before so I'm thinking if I start the antidepressant again my erections well get better as long as the numbin side effect gos away, if my premature ejaculation don't go away I may do. I want to be on my antidepressants
I beleave premature ejaculation is weak erections and delayed ejaculation is better erections but could be wrong.
I read that ejaclation is to do with serotonin levels so if your serotonin levels are low then premature ejaculation well start so you need too boost that.

Do it your self meds never work out well
You mean I should stick too the meds not suppments?
1 docter told me that the ones I'm on floxetine well not cause problems and that I don't need too take vitamins and another 1 told me too go back on for a month I started going numb i stopped as I think after 1 month my dick would be completely dead, I wish I was never put on that stuff but also wish I never come off it if that makes sense.
I'm taking gingko and ginseng and well take that if I take meds or not.. I did take a pill from a adult shop aslo that as reduce my penis size and it could of been a fake herbal it was a another stupid mistake taking this cheap pill that cost a few pounds and the herbal pills seeem too take the feel away too but there's no problems with supplements only herbal pills it seem.
I think my advice is don't start a antidepressant if you can help it but if you do then keep takin it

I suffer from mild depression and anxiety but never went to a GP about it.  I have always been wary of anti-depressants and reading about the side effects on here has put me off even more.

Started taking St. Johns Wort tablets a couple of weeks back.  Don't know if it's placebo or not but i feel different.  Never feel too low and feel more comfortable socially.  Wanking less and not punted since I started with them so dont know how they will affect my punting.  The fact I cant even be bothered tells it's own story I guess.

Offline MrMatrix

Anti depressants will affect your libido. I once started them some years ago and with in 48 hours I was impotent. Packed them up the next day. :hi:

Offline megaman

I'm finding it hard without them tho depression and PE

Offline yorkshirepunter3333

I have been on them, my little man worked but my appetite for sex went down. To be honest, I saved a fortune on punts and still had sex with the OH I just felt that I dident need ( yes need ) to punt as much.

I also found that I had less desire to drink and over eat, so for me a win win but I guess everyone is different.

I have had one punt since being on them.

The ones I am on increase serotonin ( that maybe the wrong word ) drinking realises seritone but too much drink blocks it.

Offline The Owl

When I took anti-depressants I was aware of the possible side effect around sex. I developed a real mental block that I couldn't cum but a patient girlfriend and a marathon sex session resulted in an eventual pop. After that I was able to cum more easily again. It should be noted that some anti-depressants do reduce the ability to experience things to their full extent, akin to being under a blanket, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy sex.

Offline jaydefo24

This is what put me off those SSRIs myself. Decided to try other things like St John’s Wort and punting more. It worked.

Offline megaman

My depression as just got a bit worse again basically on my punt I cum too fast then after that I waited in the room then when the WG walked out i  heard about 2 or 3 of the girls having a good laugh and and some of the remarks were bad. I have unfortunately become a laughing stock at my local parlour because of my sexual difficults.
I was planning on going too another parlour but have lost hell of a lot of conference.
Everybody knows that Antidepressants drugs are not  good for you unless you see a doctor. My doctor thinks they don't have side effects and that you can just have a normal sex life, but they do have a good side effect tho delayed ejaculation. I think there's a link between delayed ejaclation and low sex drive maybe I don't know.
I'm cumin and going in less then 10mins so I'm thinking to myself now just fuck it and just stay on them.
I don't want too brother seeing a doctor too be told too masturbation instead and it seems too me that unless your in a relationship they don't want too help, so after being told too masturbation instead I've choice too do some self help  by takin supplements and wot not.
There are some worrying things about antidepressants.
There is some stuff on the net about them being used on sex offenders too lower there sex drive just Google it I was a bit taken back when I seen this.
They can lower t levels reduce NO but it's not just all sexual they have other side effects too like sweating.
I think I need too go back on tho not just for control on my ejaclation but for my mental state as well.
I've been timeing my punts with out the drugs and I've been getting about 8mins ive not been holdin back tho she tells me too just finish then laughs after but if i dont finish they get pissed off but anyway well see how the next one gos then back on for good maybe and my mental state is pretty bad too. I think also why i finish quickly is because I can't stay hard so have too just finish. My penis has been damaged from a hand job too being wanked off at 100mph and my sexual function seems too be getting worse and worse but I'm going too carry on intoo I can't even wank myself off then quit I think.

Offline AlwaysLooking

I have been on a couple of different types, first one just knock any interest in anything out the window - can't remember if I was even remotely interested in getting it up or not. Second type after a few weeks to a month I would get hard, and that was it. No amount of play with it would ever make me cum. Mrs was happy enough mind as I could fuck like a porn star for hours. Fun to start with but fecking frustrating after a while

Offline HKS15

I was on sertraline until just over a month ago, had an absolute nightmare with it, made my anxiety ten times worse and it killed my libido. When I wanted to, I could get hard, but it took me an age to cum and there was zero sensation whatsoever.

After coming off that I was put on mirtazapine, my libido was zero on it again, but I had no problem performing as normal when I wanted to. However, I came off it through my own volition as it's a sedative, I couldn't wake up on it and it made me feel completely braindead. I'm inclined to agree with the poster who said they're a scam after trying them myself. Hopefully CBT will work for me.

Offline today14

Yes do try CBT. I did it for a year and it did help a lot with my mood. About 5 years ago I came off Sertraline myself over the course of a month and my sex drive gradually came back. However recently I went through a bit of a bad patch and decided to try the herbal pills 'Kalms'. These have had the same effect of making me numb and at times soft. I stopped taking them 2 weeks ago and things are slowly getting better. I can now get hard when I masturbate and it's better during sex.
Talking helps, so if you can talk to someone about your problems it makes it a bit better. I was thinking about getting some private councelling for myself.

Offline megaman

You well not feel as much on them that's true but have you notice that your penis doesn't glow as big too? I have notice this as it reduces my size. I have been cumin at different penis sizes and it seems if I'm on them I well orgasm before I get too full size. I don't seem too get as big on them too.
