The thread on phone box & newsagents cards reminded me of this. I used to use it regularly with success. I recall learning 69 with a Rendezvous lady who had also never done it before. First separately going down on each other and then the real thing. 69 has been my favourite number ever since.

there were many contact mags in the days of Cynthia Payne. Other memories?

It was very slow for me as I had the magazine and replies sent to a once-a-week job which had a secure mail drop and I worked there from 1974 to 1985.

hmm, fairly recent but what if the missus wanted to know what I had bought on Amazon .... ! Doh!
I wonder if the publisher got the numbers from phone boxes?

Remember the contact mags very well, was how I started punting in 03/04 at the very arse end of it.
A bit of a thrill making a booking off the strength of a few grainy pics - when I came back to punting in 2016 everything was online - a buyer's paradise compared to how it used to be.

used to use them all the time when I started to punt in 1979, Northern Link up, Manchester Scene, published from a little shop in Bolton IIRC

early ones only had box numbers, so you had to write a letter and send with an SAE

My choice of contact magazines throughout the 80s/90s/00s was Northern Link Up, printed and distributed by Brian and Norma (both swingers) from a little shop originally on Cross Lane Gorton, and after the mid 80s a shop near to Crompton Way Bolton. I must have spent a small fortune with them over the years.
Northern Link Up was a box number magazine and was mainly used by swingers, although there were single women adverts on there who were always looking for "generous gents".
In 1986 me and the wife became swingers and met a couple of dozen couples of all ages and sizes over the course of 15/16 years.
We originally used to answer adverts from other couples and then eventually decided to place our own advert in 1995.
If you paid for an advert, you got a complimentary copy of the magazine. So eventually our free copy turned up at our house(in a plain brown envelope) and lo and behold the wife was on the front cover,in her basque and stockings, legs open with a big black dot covering her shaven fanny.
She was mortified but soon saw the funny side of it.
We eventually started meeting single guys (via Fabswingers) and I always told the guys we met that they had just fucked a "Cover Girl".

The other contact magazine published by Norma and Brian was called Manchester Scene and that had ads that all had phone number. Nearly all ads were single women . This was the means by which I punted for about 30 years from 1980 - 2010ish.

I didn't know they were still around in 2010, definitely a bygone age and very good fun  :hi:

The hardest part in contacting the ladies in the early days was trying to find a phone box that actually worked. They nearly all smelled of piss and once or twice some disgusting bastard had shit on the floor,I was retching with the smell as soon as I opened the door and just legged it as fast as I could.
I was assigned a car phone in 1993 so I could make calls in the privacy of my company car, although I was supposed to declare any private calls that I made. Can you imagine telling the young girls in accounts that such and such a number were the prostitutes that I was fucking on a regular basis.
And then got my first proper mobile in 1997 so I could make calls from anywhere I liked.

Yes they certainly do!
Fortunately in 2003 I did have a mobile so didn't need to run the piss soaked telephone box gauntlet! Nowadays there are galleries of decent pics and in some cases video but I do look back nostalgically on literally "taking a punt" on a grainy photo! Simpler times in many ways.

I used them and had an accommodation address to get them sent to, the indirect mags that is and got my porn vids sent to the same address.

What I recall is IF there was a pic of the WG it was a terrible black and white photocopy which I could hardly see her in. I did meet some good WGs through these mags but also some bad ones, like nowadays.

UKP is the best resource now for locating good WGs and avoiding bad ones, well it is in my area, London, use it with A/W and though A/W is now like wading knee deep in shit looking for a gem UKP can lead you in the right direction. Or like me you are prepared to take a risk in search of a gem, sometimes works, sometimes not.

Indeed, and I have posted the same on here over the years on similar threads to this one. Many phones boxes either had piss in them, shit, had been set on fire, or weren't working at all. It was sometimes a case of driving around to find one that worked and that could take a while.

How come the magazines are still on sale? Are any of them new?

Offline sparkus

There was one on sale in off licences and newsagents about 10 years ago called something like 'London Adult Scene'.

I bought a copy drunk, it was all listings of brothels and saunas I already knew of and a load of sex lines.

Speaking of which, does anyone remember this? External Link/Members Only

Indeed. What a fascinating thread for those of us whose punting didn't begin until the 'modern era' of adverts in newspapers, followed by t'interweb.

I can't imagine writing a letter and enclosing an S.A.E! Well, I can; but not for an appointment for a shag!!

I never wrote a letter to a prostitute in those days,it was too much trouble with accommodation address etc.I always got a direct contact mag which mainly listed ladies who had a phone number (landline obviously in those days).
The indirect mags had only box numbers and they were used mainly by swingers who did not want their landline numbers on public display for all and sundry to see.
It could take a week from posting your letter to Northern Link Up to then getting a phone call from one of the swinger couples you had written too. When we were on Fabswingers a few years ago, some replies were almost instantaneous.
All this cost money.  Approx £5 for Link Up magazine.  Plus a fee for each letter sent -@ 50p each (usually 5 letters each time) plus a  2nd class stamp on each letter.
Nowadays on Fabswingers everything is free as well as instantaneous.

I can't imagine a reply by Sergei would be worth the paper it was written on  :D :sarcastic:

Online JUICEGORGER

I used to draw cartoons as a 17/18 year old doing A Levels at school and sold a batch to Goldstar Publications and they appeared in a couple of New Direction mags, copies of which I received and it opened up a whole new world for me!
The thrill in hand writing a letter and sending it to a PO Box address, enclosing a photo and then wanking oneself silly over the grainy contact photo in anticipation, was immense! Lying about my age, I was introduced to some pretty sordid stuff by a mid 40 divorcee who lived some 30 miles away in the village of "Wookey Hole" - highly appropriate!
I think the mag disappeared late 80s/early 90s and whilst I only had one further rendezvous through it, it was inspirational in introducing the world of swinging and hedonism and the contacts always seemed more genuine than the online equivalents such as FAB.

I subscribed to Rendezvous magazine, around 1998, but I don't think I paid anything for it after maybe the first few issues. After about a year of receiving monthly copies I phoned them up to cancel it (I was moving house) and was never charged, even though on paper I owed about £30. First contact I made through it insisted on a protracted postal correspondence ahead of any meeting, requesting £5 for a set of photos, then £10 for a homemade video. Saw right through that one. Second contact was a pro and the first WG I ever paid for. Needless to say, pursuing this hobby is much easier these days.

I couldn't agree more, HA! It's a fascinating thread; I had no idea this world existed, back then, even though I grew up in it. I remember buying a copy of 'New Direction' which featured Mary Millington shoving a bunch of daffodils up her fanny, and thinking it was the most thrilling thing I'd ever seen.

Back in the late 80s one of the guys I worked with was the younger brother of Ross Gillfilan who was the editor of Fiesta magazine for about 20 years.
Between them they arranged for a copy of Fiesta to be delivered to our workplace FOC every month.
The look of disdain when the magazine was delivered each month from some of the more prim and proper female staff was priceless.
And we used to pass the mag around between the lads. Those moaning old bints were not amused.

I wouldn't recommend that these days - the prim and proper brigade have won the workplace war.

Whenever my dad took his car in for a service, the garage reception area was plastered with posters of topless and naked models. I don't see that these days.
