Author Topic: Threatened with kidnapping and death; How to deal with scammers (satisfying end)  (Read 7103 times)

Well, this is a first for me. And actually added some enjoyable excitement in these rather uneventful days.

The scammer's phone number is 1 809 662 71**
He mentioned VivaStreet, so one of the ads is likely run by scammers, so just be aware that scams of various types are on the rise.

I was about to contact the police, but noticed the area code, possibly in the Dominican Republic. So I knew a law enforcement route would be futile. He wanted money sent via western union. I tried to get his account number, but he wouldn't send it unless I was physically at a Western Union, and I wasn't going to waste that much time. Then I told him I would bring the money in person. I tried to get a physical address, but he wouldn't give one. He continued to threaten me. I even called him to hear his voice, which possibly had a Dominican accent. But he still wouldn't give me a physical address. I was trying to milk him for my own info, but he obviously didn't know anything.

The threats continue...

So I sent him a picture with his hand-written name on it...

I was then curt and he politely and quickly fucked off.

Anyways, I wish all scams ended this happily. Stay safe, friends.

Can anyone point me to a Vivastreet or other profile linked to this scam?

Well done OP  :drinks:

One thing that made me laugh. The fraudster starts his message with, 'Look, I'm a man of very few words' then proceeds with a loooooonnng spiel about what he's going to do  :sarcastic:

I had the same issue and I told them to do one. I would be waiting for them wearing my best garments and I never heard anything back.

I couldn't take anyone seriously with a first name of Pedro ...

Pablo ... different story  :scare:

Possibly from this one based on the lack of replies to inquiries, the timing of the scam, and the similar report from JC.

Not likely linked to the 809# scam because the exchange was on WA, which would be the first choice for a call back (on WA) for free. Plus he seemed intent on getting a money transfer rather than a return call. It could just be a Dominican Republic number, as the scammer had a possible Dominican accent.

Well done OP  :drinks:
Cheers, in the end it had a good outcome. But on the other hand, extortion and threatening to kidnap and torture family members would (hopefully) get him some serious jail time if he were in the UK. And if anyone were to accidentally link their real-life info to their punting phone (or not use a punting phone), the cunt could probably extort someone at the threat of outing them.

I made a thread last year on securing the punt phone.

Something similar happened to me a few months ago - it was after a passport leak from my email provider - which now is changed monthly.

Briefly, he said after hacking my account he had installed something on my laptop and had been able to take a copy of both the porn I was watching as well as me using my webcam.

At first I panicked, then decided the 4 figure sum he wanted was too high for most people to arrange in 24 hours, plus I'm sure I'd have noticed the bright green lights on the webcam so first suspicions began to surface.
I then 'Googled' using the first line of his email - turns out it was word for word from a well known scam, so I ignored the email
Over the next week or so I had almost exactly the same wording on a few more emails, they too were ignored

We can't be too careful these days it seems

Looks like the same group based on the method, and nearly identical text. Was there any sign that they were based in the UK? If so, it would be great to initiate a criminal investigation against them. Also, posting their video might have been helpful to ID them.

Other scammer fake VivaStreet Ad phone numbers for cross-referencing (do not call): 07405100843 and 07404229568

If they come as a text you can forward them without further questions to 7726 and get an automatic follow up request to forward the number, so still have it. You are not required to add any personal details. It's the mobile phone industries scam prevention. They will permanently block the number. (Same goes for any other scam text you get HMRC, parcel delivery etc, etc)

Cheers. That will least inconvenience them to buy new simcards and data plans. But I think most of us were messaged on WhatsApp. Will this work for WhatsApp messages?

I've had this before too after a password leak, the scammer actually quoted the password.  I just ignored it as I remembered reading about a poor teenage boy getting the same email and actually killed himself as he was so worried that the scammer was going to carry out the threat.

Unfortunately not just text messages.

Bump

I recently received the exact same message. I did a quick check on here and saw it has happened to a few people so I just ignored it. They have not followed up.

I'm still waiting for them to carry out their threats seven months on
Just ignore them
