Author Topic: Accessing Adultwork from another country  (Read 1731 times)

When a WG is accessing Adultwork abroad it normally shows on the profile accessing from another country. However, is it possible for them to disable that option so it doesn't show which country they are accessing it from?

The reason I ask is because I recently contacted a WG asking to see her on Monday but she told me that she is currently away on holiday in Hungary at the moment and will not be back until Friday next week.

However on her profile I can see that she has logged in today but it is not showing that she is accessing it from another country. I'm just asking because I don't really want to waste time pursuing a booking with an escort if she is lying on the first instance of communication.

You could be right. Or could it be that they are accessing it using their mobile phone and it is giving a UK IP address? Or would the IP address change if you are in another country using your UK SIM or dongle to access Adultwork?

When I access aw's search function abroad using my phone it does still offers me a UK area menu.
As soon as I use a laptop with a local wifi connection the IP is detected and the default menu changes to that of the country I am in. So you are probably correct.

They could be using the same trick that allows people abroad to watch BBC iPlayer, lots on info if you Google, relatively easy if you know what you're doing.

That's also true of course if they have a UK VPN setup. I use it all the time for  iplayer when abroad but of course as it routes through the local wifi the connection can be a bit slower.

Are prossies clever enough to use a VPN?

So, If they use their mobile phone then it will route it using a UK IP address? Is that for everyone that uses a UK phone?

You get some odd results in this, I do not pretend to understand the technicalities!  I met a girl in Sheffield who an hour earlier it showed as accessing from France.  She had no idea why it showed that.

The databases that map IP address to country are not necessarily 100% accurate. Sometimes blocks of addresses are sold from one country to another, and it takes time for GEOIP db's to catch up.

A few years back I got a new internet connection and the IP address I was given had been in Portugal. For a while Google would serve me a page in Portuguese even though I was accessing the co.uk site.
