It’s not as simple and straightforward as it initially seems.
Whilst many of us don’t have issues with the traceability and accountability, the main two issues are the ability to cancel and suspend transactions(1) , and also when you look at the fine print in account useage , many of the non- traditional new banks that operate via apps are not sex work friendly (2) .
1. There had been instances where a SP has been paid ‘cashless’ and then had the transaction reversed. This can be done up to 4 weeks after the transaction and if you read the Revolut fine print it can be done up to 13 months after the transaction. Unfortunately the responsibility is on the SP to prove it was a legitimate transaction as it’s easier to claim payment in error. This has happened to me personally when I took a bank transfer as payment for an indie booking.
2. There have been many cases of SPs having accounts closed, citing fraud and money laundering prevention laws as the justification . This has actually happened to Bonds as the online business account we had suddenly changed their T and Cs to exclude gambling and sex work related businesses - we used ours to pay for running the business and paying in commission, not client transactions. There are instances of bank accounts being frozen and closed with no notice because of ‘suspicious activity’ - essentially random people paying in one off payments.
In theory there are many ladies that would love this - less cash would be a major benefit in terms of safety and security. However, until we have a little more confidence in these systems that transactions will not be recalled and that accounts will not be suddenly closed, it’s not going to happen any time soon. Sorry!
