Went to the store asked them to unlock the adult content on sim card. They wanted my ID. I then asked if my name and address would be linked to the sim card and they said yes.

So how does one be private and unlock adult content. Even uk punting is blocked on the sim card!

Only ever seen this problem with vodafone Sim cards, try one of those ones that most petrol stations sell lycamobile etc

You can call em on the customer service line.  Tell em you want to do online stuff.  The girl asked me if i was 18 & i said what do you think ?  Sorted

You usually only have to provide CC details for verification purposes.  Its not usually then billed by card, or linked to you in any way that matters.

Only the phone company know the phone belongs to you.

Basically unless you are doing illegal stuff it really shouldn't matter.

I have a punting phone on tmobile that i registered for adult content years back.  Because its pay as you go, theres no bills or anything linking me to the phone that anyone who doesnt have my online password would see.  If i was organising a terrorist plot, or kiddie porn ring, then it might be an issue as the govt could easily link me to the phone, but as I am doing nothing nefarious with it, its all good.

Get a "3" sim card

There is no lock on it

Use the Opera Mini Browser - all traffic is routed through a cloud VPN service first which isn't filtered. It also reduces your web browsing data usage  :D

I've tried most of the sims from the well known companies. I even got a 3 pay as you go sim from them. There is definitely a lock on it. I can't access uk punting on it either.

Can I access uk punting on it cause ukpunting doesn't allow you to use vpn unless your a regular poster

Try accessing it securely i.e. change the HTTP at the start of the address to HTTPS. This defeats EE's adult content filtering.

If it works, you'll see the padlock next to your web address indicating a secure connection (should be OK with AW and here). You're good to go in this case.

Not all websites have secure access (e.g. some agency websites) - they don't need it as they're not handling financial transactions or customer online accounts through their page. If you try the HTTPS trick here, you get an error.

As of, roughly the middle of last year I think all networks put an adult content filter on, often blocks gambling sites as well

Re opera, either use that browser or download Opera VPN, which you can then use on any browser. You won't be able to login to UKP when connected via VPN as it's a proxy service. But you can actually access UKP on standard mobile data, i'm on o2 and no issues.

Agree.

I had to link my credit card to mine to get it unlocked.

Argos won't even sell you a SIM card & mobile if you're under 18!

Just a thought, do the various wifi hotspot networks have blocks on? I know they most likely do but something to check incase you find one that doesn't

Three has a block. I think it was one of David Cameron's laws to make all ISPs block adult material and require ID to unblock it. He wanted the same rule to apply for internet (on computers) but didn't get very far with it.

In spite of the paranoia floating about, they're not putting anyone on a list. If the government or the ISPs wanted to track you, they can already find out what sites you're going on whether or not you give them your ID or CC details. You gave them your name and address when you registered.
