Author Topic: Is there any way to Save a Draft Review so that I can finish it later?  (Read 1554 times)

Offline 01ellie2015

Hi Admin/Mod Team - (LLP -Very helpful in the past  :))

Hope you are well and having a good day?

Just wondering how easy/possible it would be to add a "Save Draft" Function to thee UKP Site.  As I can only login sporadically, it is difficult to also find the time to do a proper review.

Please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Offline big-al93

Write it in word,or whatever word processing program you prefer, best to do this while fresh in your mind, save a copy, come back a couple of weeks later, read it, change anything that has changed in your thoughts since. Copy and paste.

Obviously not a mod or admin, but I doubt there is any real need for the additional function. Easy enough to have a hidden/password protected folder to hold the draft in.

I'm no techno whiz kid but wouldn't it be easier just to save it as a draft on your computer then you can go back to it as and when then post it when it's finished  :unknown:

Should even be easy enough to do that on a smartphone too.

This has been asked in the past; the functionality doesn’t exist currently on UKP, not aware there are plans to add it since it’s so easy to use many other methods and then copy and paste it here.  Below are a few ways you could save a draft before posting it here…

MS Word, Mac/iPad/iPhone Pages, MS Outlook/Hot,ail/Outlook.com email draft, Gmail draft, MS OneNote, iPad/iPhone email app as a draft. Personally, I use the Notes app on my iPad.

HTH.

I save them in word and edit as and when then copy and paste into the review. I'm not sure if this forum software is capable of a save draft function.   :unknown:

I’m pretty certain of you write it all down on some paper if you have an iPhone it can scan to text, maybe someone can clarify this please.

Just write it in Word, go back to it whenever you want, and then post it here when you're finished.

There is a Draft extension for Chrome if you're using that. I've not used it so cannot tell you if it works :unknown: and it requires a login

Do it in word or write it down
Ask your OH to spell check & make presentable
Then wazz it up on here

Yep - this is what I do. Just need to put in enter/returns on the paragraphs to space it out and more readable - if you tend to write longish ones (like me!!).

If you have posted enough to qualify for the Private Message Functionality you could always message them to yourself if you don't want any risk of them being found on your pc. Ditto if you have a punting email address.

Offline Tender.french.kiss

I'll have to try JontyR suggestion as it seems interesting and I'd like to keep everything in one place
I agree that there are several other options of saving it as a draft email or document but I must admit I agree with OP this is something I have often thought about and missed as it's hard to find long enough undisturbed quiet moment to write a detailed enough review.
A shame it's not available in UKP as I use several other discussion platforms on which this functionality seems standard.

+1 Great suggestion for the punter specific confidentiality it offers, only thing missing is capturing screenshots and images from the ad in case it vanishes before you publish your review.
You could use any online email service that doesn't (secretly) read your mail for monetization or machine learning enhancement which would allow you to attach images and keep them private, so perhaps try Protonmail  :unknown:

Hiya  Guys - It's OP here.  Thanks for the suggestions on how to get around the Draft options.  As I'm normally using work facilities, I have to be careful about these things. Saving Word or Excel documents is always a risk as you never know if things have been deleted completely.

The Private Message option could work for me especially if I can attach the images too.  I will check if I am able to do that and report back.  If it's review based, then I'd have previously qualified but I only have a few reviews attached to my profile now - Lost some during an upgrade to the UKP System.

Thanks for all your input and hopefully I'll have something more interesting to Review than a sombre trip to Baltic Massage in Sunny Dagenham :D

My view: - I think you (and the others that do it) are daft to use any work facilities for anything to do with punting. Many companies would consider it an abuse of work facilities and / or potentially bringing the company/organisation into disrepute. Although it maybe a small risk of being found out, IMO it is just not worth it. You risk serious disciplinary action and possible dismissal.

Dangerous posting at work as accessing UKP or using company software could easily trigger an "unapproved site" warning on your company firewall.
Safest to remote access into an online virtual PC and then log into your own Office 365 account from there via a web browser.
That way you've got two cutout layers they can't get past

I'll be very surprised if you have PM facilities on here plus you can't easily attach images if at all.

You really use work IT equipment for punting related things.   :unknown:

Offline LLPunting

I'm pretty sure ALL companies unrelated to punting or porn who find their employees are using company equipment to transact and store punting information will be punting said offenders into disciplinary proceedings.

Why can't you use your own phone, tablet or computer?  A cheap bluetooth keyboard will set you back 10-20 quid.  A cheap adequate tablet probably less that 60.  And both would provide civvy life benefits too.  Even if you edit the draft on a shared home device you can save the file in an encrypted cloud storage folder.  Remember to delete document history from the editor used or perhaps only install the one you use when you need it and uninstall it, wiping all app data, when you finish editing.

... ... ... ...

Don't you have any kind of smart phone, OP; rather than running the risk of your work's technology department finding out your - our! - dirty little secret?

The last four years before I took early retirement coincided with the first three years of my punting career, but there was no way I'd have run the risk of using work's equipment - it could have been at least a disciplinary - possibly a sacking - matter.

When I had a review to write  I used my online punting email account and saved it as a draft which was the most discreet method for me. I’ve never left anything punting related on my computer or tablet

As others have said - don’t do anything punting related on work equipment, it’s asking for trouble

Hi all,

Thanks for your suggestions and feedback for a workaround for Drafting Reviews.  I've invested in a tablet so I'm hoping that It'll be easier for the punting escapades.  Back here today as I have the week in London.  Seems there's some inflationary pressure on prices frome the reviews that I have looked at so far.... :unknown:

Will review if I manage to find a suitable option before the week is out....

Thanks once again for your help and feedback.

Here we go again. Another question that just requires some commonsense and no paranoia. :unknown:

So when I write reviews, I find some time during the day and bash it out there and then (the review that is  :D). I tend to have a good memory, so it's not difficult to leave it for a few weeks and write it up. I understand some people tend to forget things or have more going on in their lives which can put that session in the back of their minds.

My suggestion would be to just use your email account and write it up and save it as a draft or email it to yourself.

Or you could do it the old-fashioned way, and buy a notepad and pen and take some notes during the session, after and use it to write the review. If you're worried about the notes falling into the wrong hands, you can then take the notepad to the kitchen, rip out the notes, and burn them. Alternatively, you could invest in buying a shredder. I would recommend purchasing one of the ones that shreds in multi-directions as that would make it difficult for anyone to glue the notes back together again to find out what you have been up to. Some binmen are known to do that.

Hopefully one of those ideas works for you.

Of course, that's assuming:

ii) he's still got some lead in his pencil!  ;)

I just do FR’s on wordpad or notepad (saving a short cut on the taskbar). When finished copy and paste onto the site new FR report Page. Space and edit as necessary and bingo! Don’t forget to change the positive tab if you want to leave a neutral or negative.
