I can't quote statistics but am satisfied that doing bareback is far riskier than having protected sex. I'd say bb anal carries a higher risk than vaginal because of lack of natural lubrication and the fact there is a higher risk of bacterial infection.
Like anything else in life it's a numbers game the more you do something dangerous the more likely you are to get caught out.
